Biggest shortage? Sanity. They are demanding a ban on automation in cranes, cargo movers, etc. In other words, pay me more and no robotics.

Clever timing for their strike.

They figure Biden administration will put pressure on corporate to give the workers what they want so problems don't impact consumers prior to the election.

It depends on how long it lasts. If it lasts into November, plan on using last years Christmas decorations. Get any car repairs you've been putting off done right away. Make sure you have plenty of any medications you need on hand.

I'm actually hoping for an extended strike, not necessarily because I sympathize with them but as an object lesson to the consumer on the stupidity of our current supply chains.

As far as I know their Union isn't covered by the Railway Labor Act, and Biden doesn't seem inclined to jnvoke Taft-Hartley so yes, smart timing.

Will not be necessary to drop interest rates over this strike.

Dem administration realizes what a prolong strike will do to Harris's election chances. An unholy amount of pressure is no doubt getting heaped on management.

Workers will win their demands in record time.

There are going to be rate cuts anyway.

By the end of 2025 they are projecting around 2.5 basis points, so a bunch of
.25 cuts between now and then.

That said it will be interesting to see if they might take a .5 cut in November.

Rate cuts will be driven by the need to issue new debt instruments to roll over what is maturing at low levels regardless of what is going on in the economy.

this may be one of them but I would expect 1-2 more from Trump and a couple from Harris in the next 2 weeks

I guess you can't take a photo with anyone anymore.....this Union provides $ to both sides.....President of the Union makes over $700K. You can't stop Automation.....why is your job more protective than all the auto manufacturing jobs? Most have no higher education and now you will make more than the average engineer? LOL.... My bet is the Union can't afford a long drawn out battle.....

If I'm shippers, I'm looking to acquire and build new Ports - fully automated and when the next contract renewal is up - F em'.

The US has some of the most inefficient ports in the world, and US consumers pay for every penny of it. Don't kid yourself about who will ultimately bear the cost of this blackmail. You will.

You're assuming that ending the strike and ensuring functioning supply chains is the goal.

This government is the one running FEMA, the guys who are threatening individuals providing private hurricane relief in North Carolina with arrest.

What if DC's goal is to ensure bare shelves +/- WW3 with a national emergency and a delayed election?

I don't know how much more evidence we need to see before we conclude that we are ruled by a junta that hates us.
