1) gets him out of Speaker Johnson's hair and will make the HOR run much more smoothly,
2) insure that the housecleaning at Justice will be done with a flamethrower and a chainsaw instead of with a scalpel,
3) provide a useful scapegoat if the public thinks the gutting has gone too far, and
4) make certain that even a hint of bureaucratic resistance is met with heads on spikes.

Worst possible pick. The only way this is a sane pick is if he is doing a Harriet Meier.

Absolutely horrible pick. He should have picked Trey Gowdy.

Bizarre choice, unless Trump plans to go scorched earth.

Guess what comes around, goes around.

Good pick.

Although I would have considered floating the following move:

Clarence Thomas retires from the Supreme Court, gets put in charge of justice, and I pick his replacement.

That still may happen...

Gaetz? Can he get through confirmation? Just as many GOP dislike him as Dems.

Senators will have former Speaker's file on Gaetz
Ethics investigation is still ongoing, they'll have that information as well

Sh it is about to get real with Gaetz as AG.

It's time for retribution. Now is not the time to unify with people who hate you and have abused you. No mercy.

Motion to recess is a unanimous consent motion. Dems one dem at least will object, hence no recess, and the motion won't be made while Schumer is majority leader. When Thune is ML, many hearings will be convened for the rest of Trump's nominees

Trump can adjourn both houses of Congress under article II section 3, then recess appoint his cabinet.

Trump picked Gaetz to be his attack dog when in reality Gaetz will probably be pretty tamed down as he knows they will use any excuse to throw him in prison next cycle

Are you sure?

What does Article 2 Section 3 mean?
Read Interpretations of Article II, Section 3

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

Do you have a link? An adjournment isn't a recess, if Senate is adjourned, no motions can be made, including the motion to stand in recess

Gowdy makes 10x more sense as Attorney General.

Have a hunch he could still end up with the job.

He won't be confirmed. It is a message that Trump will continue the DOJ's politicization, and it will make the next look more moderate.

I wonder if this is a throw away, to get someone that can pass. Anyone would be easier to get confirmed than Gaetz.

You think trying to clean up the DOJ is "politicizing" the DOJ?

Sorry I meant article II, section 2, clause 3.

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

Senate Republicans reacted with alarm and dismay to President-elect Donald J. Trump's decision to nominate Representative Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida, for attorney general, and several said they were skeptical that he would be able to secure enough votes for confirmation.

"He's got his work really cut out for him," Senator Joni Ernst, Republican of Iowa, said, chuckling as she spoke.

As long is it is someone that goes scorched earth against the democrats, I am for it.

Every liberal, everywhere should be looking over their shoulder. The Jan 6th hearings should look like a cake walk after Trump is done.

Anyone that said Nazi should be sent to jail. Every one of them.
