So Trump is pretty much giving the Supreme Court the finger. Shame on him and Rand Paul.

So much for Trump being tough on China! That sure didn't last long.
From what I have heard, Trump has been speaking with the SC conservative judges to make sure this is legal. Wish there was a little more info on that. And he is being tough on China, you just can't see it happening. He's waving a massive tarrif stick.

What changed Trump's views on it? in 2023, TikTok has moved its US user data and granted access to its algorithm and source code to Oracle, allowing the company to review and audit the platform's operations to address concerns about data privacy and potential Chinese government interference with US user data; essentially, Oracle is now monitoring TikTok's algorithm to ensure its integrity and transparency

Project Texas: This initiative, where TikTok collaborates with Oracle to address US data security concerns, is often referred to as "Project Texas".

If we need another example of how stupid is 'Murica, the same people that still believe Russian hackers stole the 20216 elections via Facebook believe TikTok is harmless.

We really have a stupid country.

Sounds like he may be a little at odds with Trump. I think in Trump's tweet he mentioned a 50% split with TikTok.

Trump said that the USA must own 50% of the product. In the vids I saw, he didn't mention who would own the other half, but I think I read that he is expecting it to be sold to groups like the one Frank McCourt and Kevin OLeary started

I think that the folks railing against TicTok right now are not seeing the longterm goal of Trump. Let the USA own half of TicTok, sell the other half to a US or similar concern, own or develop our version of the algorithm, stand back, and let billions of dollars come into the coffers.

If we are going to dig ourselves out of the hole the liberal left has dug for us, then we need new and innovative sources of income. This is one.

Tik Tok's ties to the CCP is more direct & obvious.
How so? How does CCP learning I watched an apple pie video over Thanksgiving make them more dangerous than Facebook who is selling our information?

Possibly. But it is more direct. And I doubt they care about what you eat. There is so much more info that they (along with FB, Apple, Google, etc) can get from spying on you and it's a lot more dangerous than food videos.

Most people don't realize that ALL taxes on corporations (& all other costs from regulations, fees, fines, lawsuits, etc) are eventually paid by consumers.

It is just mind numbingly dumb these people that say corporations don't pay enough. Unlike a personal tax, it is just another cost.

People in general do not understand economics adequately. Their education is not advanced if they learn Marxist or even Keynesian economics. It's better to focus on the Austrian School: Ludwig von Mises, Frederick von Hayek, Milton Friedman.

The economic system of Europe in the 18th century that focused in gaining wealth for a country (especially the king) by any means necessary including protective tariffs, granting monopolies, hoarding gold, etc. Note, it was these kinds of economic policies as much as taxes that led to the American Revolution.

It's worth $300B
TikTok's valuation varies significantly based on the inclusion of its proprietary algorithm. With the algorithm, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives estimates TikTok's worth at "well north of $100 billion," potentially reaching up to $200 billion in an optimal scenario. Without the algorithm, the valuation drops to approximately $40 billion to $50 billion.
Associated Press

These figures are influenced by recent developments, including the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold a law requiring ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, to divest its U.S. operations by January 19, 2025, or face a ban. In response, several potential buyers have emerged, such as billionaire Frank McCourt, who has expressed interest in acquiring TikTok's U.S. operations.
Reuters

Additionally, President-elect Donald Trump has announced plans to "save TikTok" by proposing a joint venture where the U.S. government would hold a 50% stake in the company. This proposal aims to address national security concerns while keeping the platform operational for its 170 million American users.

If 50% was owned by the US government, would be a great turnabout, where once it was a security threat to later become a security asset and tool.

What historian said .... also that successful trade resulted in gold returning to your mother country.

Modern day people look at a trade deficit between countries as bad. That is an old Mercantilism view creeping in. A trade deficit does not mean a great deal. On a personal level, we all have a trade deficit with our grocery store. Few consider that a bad thing.

There is a number of great clips of Milton Freedman on YouTube. Very worthwhile. Asked on this topic "what if China (any any) gives subsidies to an industry? Milton's reply "Who am I to turn down foreign aid from China".

You don't want government interference but are willing to have an app owned by the US government for surveillance purposes. Lol

I think there should be a law protecting the digital privacy of all Americans. Companies should be limited on what kk d if data they c add n gather on people and to whom they can share it. No one should be allowed to share any American's personal data with a foreign govt. Also, each of us should have access to know exactly what data they have about us and don't control of it. I should be able to limit and edit what info Google, Apple, etc has about me and who they share it with, including advertisers.
