[Trump Defunds Public Broadcasting

Well, nobody can be much surprised by this. From NPR:
Quote:

President Trump signed an executive order Thursday directing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's board of directors to "cease federal funding for NPR and PBS," the nation's primary public broadcasters. Trump contends that news coverage by NPR and PBS contains a left-wing bias. The federal funding for NPR and PBS is appropriated by Congress.
This won't be a big deal for NPR, but PBS is going to take a significant hit:
Quote:

NPR receives about 1% of its funding directly from the federal government, and a slightly greater amount indirectly; its 246 member institutions, operating more than 1,300 stations, receive on average 8% to 10% of their funds from CPB.
By contrast, PBS and its stations receive about 15% of their revenues from CPB's federal funds.
Most of the funds for public media go to local stations; and most to subsidize television, which is more expensive than radio.

I have no real idea about bias on PBS, which I only ever watch for its historical documentaries (and haven't done that for some time). But NPR absolutely deserves it. One year ago, longtime NPR journalist Uri Berliner wrote a piece for The Free Press explaining "how NPR lost the public's trust." Berliner, a liberal, wrote:

Quote:

It's true NPR has always had a liberal bent, but during most of my tenure here, an open-minded, curious culture prevailed. We were nerdy, but not knee-jerk, activist, or scolding.
In recent years, however, that has changed. Today, those who listen to NPR or read its coverage online find something different: the distilled worldview of a very small segment of the U.S. population.
If you are conservative, you will read this and say, duh, it's always been this way.
But it hasn't.

That's true. I started listening to NPR in the 1980s, when I was a high school liberal. I stuck with it and even gave money to it after I became a conservative. Yeah, it was liberal, but it was pretty good, and I learned a lot from NPR programming. I always listened to it on my car radio.
Until I didn't. I don't remember when the change happened, but I think it was after 2012, when the programming went ultra-woke. I would listen until a host or reporter would insert racism or LGBT into stories that had nothing really to do with racism or LGBT. Or they would focus excessively on race, sex, gender, and so forth all the woke favorites while utterly ignoring the great number of people in the broad and diverse United States whose lives do not center around wokeness.
And then there was this:
Quote:

In October 2020, the New York Post published the explosive report about the laptop Hunter Biden abandoned at a Delaware computer shop containing emails about his sordid business dealings. With the election only weeks away, NPR turned a blind eye. Here's how NPR's managing editor for news at the time explained the thinking: "We don't want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories, and we don't want to waste the listeners' and readers' time on stories that are just pure distractions."
But it wasn't a pure distraction, or a product of Russian disinformation, as dozens of former and current intelligence officials suggested. The laptop did belong to Hunter Biden. Its contents revealed his connection to the corrupt world of multimillion-dollar influence peddling and its possible implications for his father.
The laptop was newsworthy. But the timeless journalistic instinct of following a hot story lead was being squelched. During a meeting with colleagues, I listened as one of NPR's best and most fair-minded journalists said it was good we weren't following the laptop story because it could help Trump.

The Summer of Floyd further radicalized the NPR workplace. Berliner:
Quote:

Race and identity became paramount in nearly every aspect of the workplace. Journalists were required to ask everyone we interviewed their race, gender, and ethnicity (among other questions), and had to enter it in a centralized tracking system. We were given unconscious bias training sessions. A growing DEI staff offered regular meetings imploring us to "start talking about race." Monthly dialogues were offered for "women of color" and "men of color." Nonbinary people of color were included, too.
One more:
Quote:

There's an unspoken consensus about the stories we should pursue and how they should be framed. It's frictionless-one story after another about instances of supposed racism, transphobia, signs of the climate apocalypse, Israel doing something bad, and the dire threat of Republican policies. It's almost like an assembly line.
NPR's leadership had every reason, for years, to change. Nobody wanted it to become conservative. We just wanted it to be fair, and diverse in its programming in terms of viewpoints. NPR, though, is the epitome of the problem within elite journalism: they only want to talk to themselves, about their own interests. Consequently, they don't see the world beyond their heads.

Fine. No media outlet has to cover the world in any way other than it wants to. But American taxpayers don't have to contribute to the salaries of people who hate them.]

That's a good post, and mirrors my thoughts. I have also given money to NPR in the past, and stopped because I couldn't give to such biased reporting. I wrote a letter to them, not that they cared.

Trump draws criticism with AI image of himself as the pope ahead of papal conclave
The image was shared Friday night on Trump's Truth Social site.

He is going out of his way to alienate people.
I'd have to say you are projecting there a bit, hoss.
He is dressed as the Pope just before a Conclave. This is the President of the US we are talking about not a reality TV show.

No need to project with Trump... Sadly, it all is true.
He was not dressed as the Pope. Dude, that was somebody's AI photo that he was laughing along with.
They are not doing him any favors...
There is that Negative Nancy. Take a breath.
Ok, I will be positive. It was a very good look. They should put out more of those, maybe Trump as a Rabbi, Trump as the King of England. Everyone will love it. How about Trump as Rasputin?

Better...
Trump as American Emperor titillate you? Maybe just a little?
Actually, makes me laugh. Trump the guy that bankrupted his Dad's company, destroyed Atlantic City and had to run to TV-land Emperor? Damn, Emperor's come cheap...

You have been part of the choir of TDS patients for months, R2. Hating Trump does not make your hate any more sane.

You either support the one guy trying to avert catastrophe, or you insult him because you get some amusement doing it.

Like it or not, you are on Team Schumer/Pelosi/Walz right now.

You damn well are not on Team America's Future.

You don't have to agree with every single thing regarding Trump's agenda. Just so you know, it is okay for you to have a single independent thought if you so choose. But I guess it is so much easier following the Trump tribe. You are a fine foot soldier and I do admire your blind loyalty. I am sorry, but I just can't do it.

For one thing, it may surprise you to learn that standing with the President when we are committed to a course, and cutting him at the knees would be very bad for the country, does not make one 'MAGA' or any kind of cultist.

Reflexively sharing insults heard from MSNBC or 'The View', however, is not a sign of deep thought or honest introspection.

We are committed, and like it or not you choose a side.

You got it. It is a cult level following. Scary thing is the rewriting of history. Next thing we will hear is how his handling of the USFL was a best ever and Atlantic City was successful. The guy has destroyed everything he touches either legally and in court or financially where control is taking away. Yet he is beyond reproach now. It is amazing. I never thought I would see a personality cult running the US, I thought that was historic 1930s stuff.

But it doesn't

For example as soon as Trump started talking about getting us involved in the Gaza mess and maybe "taking over the place" via some kind of administration with our Troops... people immediately attacked the idea as really stupid.

And he had to drop it

So far what looks like total allegiance and total conformity to you is just that Trump has basically done what he campaigned on and those are programs his supporter like.....coming for the Federal bureaucracy that is staffed by liberals and gearing up the deportations of the Biden migrant wave.

His most controversial move right now among his base is the economic Tariffs....and there is plenty of flack flying on that issue. With all kinds of long time Trump supports upset and signaling their displeasure (and of course some of like it)

It might seem that way on occasion but in the end we all have some criticism of Trump. He's not perfect and makes mistakes and no one will agree with anyone all the time.

Then there are those who criticize everything Trump does while repeating the Leftist propaganda. They are the true TDSers who don't seem to have an original thought about anything. That's the Dems, the mainstream media, most of Hollywood, and far too many others. They are often funny in their idiocy but also pathetic for repeating, & apparently believing, obvious lies.

Like it or not, you are on Team Schumer/Pelosi/Walz right now.

You damn well are not on Team America's Future.
Dude. You have gone off the rails and it concerns me greatly. I am far from a TDSer. I voted for Trump three times! Trump has done some good things so far. On the economy, tariffs, and international trade, Hogan's Goat is his key advisor.

(You youngins will just have to Google Hogan's goat!)

I've come to the conclusion that for many Trump supporters, any critique of his decisions means one is a TDSer. Trump has taken on a sort of cult of personality with these people that demands 100% allegiance and total conformity.

Agreed.

Cringe.

This just shows how "corporate" this day has become. It has nothing to do with most of the other countries Hispanics come from. Only Mexico. And then it isn't even their Independence Day.

The day is about Hispanics from Mexico, though. It celebrates a Mexican victory over the French who tried to take over Mexico after Texas left for the US

That's getting close to "hot sauce in my purse" kind of cringe. Needs to avoid getting anywhere near that.

How many of the 87k new IRS employees was Biden able to hire before he left? How many were auditors? Does this mean that Trump got rid of the all the new ones brought in by Biden to harass the American people or is he reducing the total number even more?

These are questions I would like answered. Regardless, it is a positive step. I want more.

For years I've heard that the people in Mexico don't celebrate Cinco deMayo. It means nothing to them meaning it's a fake holiday for Americans.

I have no problem with celebrating Mexican culture, especially here in south Texas where it is everywhere. I do have a problem with identity politics.

I don't see much cringe in the photo. Trump is trolling the Left who think they own Hispanic voters although Trump got lots of votes from them. And who doesn't like a good taco salad?

Seems like there are lots of single women who still need to learn about reality: economic, political, etc. Maybe getting married will help them in that. Having kids certainly has the potential to shatter illusions people have about the world.

They do celebrate it in Mexico but not nearly as much as up here. It's considered a minor holiday there. Schools are out but it's not a federal holiday

There is lots of cringe in the photo.

1. Using a Mexican holiday to say "I love Hispanics" when Hispanics are more than just people from Mexico. You don't tell someone from Columbia happy cinco de mayo. Or someone from Spain.

2. Pretending he actually eats that

3. Pretending that a taco salad is "Mexican food."
