Technicians are flat rate employees.
For a flat rate tech that flags 40 hours per week they would have to make $60/hr if they took 2 weeks vacation.
A master tech at a Ford shop is probably getting closer to $35/hr right now. He would have to average 68FRH a week to make 120k.
Because of the mix of customer pay vs warranty times it would be near impossible to do that at a Ford dealership right now.
At an independent shop that was doing 77 cars a day I used to average around 85FRH a week. I would wager the average Ford dealership does closer to 35 cars a day with far more employees (ie hours spread across more people).
I'm not saying he's completely full of ****…but…he playing fast and loose with the truth. Those jobs are far more likely to be $65,000-$80,000 and that's if the tech is compensated well. I suspect he took the high end of their pay scale and the high end of average flat rate hours and multiplied them together to get to $120,000.
For the record it's my job to deal with technicians every day. The pay scale in Ohio is lower but so is cost of living. I would say the overwhelming majority of techs are struggling to reach 40FRHs a week and the average pay across A, B, C levels is probably closer to $25 than to it is to $35. That would put annual pay in the $50,000-$60,000 range.
