I'm guessing he wasn't at Chili's or Olive Garden

I have had plenty of friends that didn't report tips and worked in nice restaurants or bars and they were not making that in a month.

If they are making that they work at a really nice restaurant or big bar that gets lots of higher end people that are big tippers.

Reading that post again, the reference to 'doing their taxes' implies that amount is the tip amount for the year (just as I figured how much overtime my wife worked last year, because that is relevant to our tax situation).

Three to ten thousand in tips works out to two fifty to eight hundred or so a month in tips, which is not out of the question.

Certainly being able to take overtime and tips out of your tax liability is popular with workers, and no surprise government officials will point to it, rather than, say, tax tables in general or deductions/credits available in the past but not now.

By exempting such income from taxes, doesn't that mean less income to the government, therefore contributing to the federal deficit, unless we substitute that loss by increasing taxes on another?

Exactly!!! "Trade deficit" is a way overused bogeyman. Seeing as we are the third most populated country in the world, doesn't it make common sense that we buy more stuff from most countries than they buy from us?

Also, has anybody figured out who is going to fill these bajillions of jobs that Trump is promising?
Call it a tax, the people are outraged! Call it a tariff, the people get out their checkbooks and wave their American flags!!!

"Border czar" title certainly came back to haunt Kamala

Yes, and the administration never even used that title for her.

Joe couldn't pronounce it.
But she was referred to as the border czar unofficially in friendly media and by unofficial statements in Congress and administration staff. The name went out of vogue as soon as it was apparent she was part of letting anybody and everybody in.

Media titles? What's important is the administration title.

Trump biggest drop in history Not so fast
Based on recent economic data from early 2026, claims that the U.S. trade deficit has dropped by "the largest amount in history" are misleading and context-dependent, often relying on selective comparisons of monthly figures rather than annual totals.
Center for Economic and Policy Research +2
Here is a fact-check of the situation based on 20252026 data:

1. The Claim: 78% Drop or "Largest in History"
  • Fact-Check: False (in context). While President Trump cited a 78% reduction in the trade deficit, official data indicates that the total annual trade deficit for 2025 was $901.5 billion, a tiny 0.2% decrease from 2024 ($903.5 billion). It did not drop by 78%.
  • The Nuance: The claims often compare an isolated monthly spike (e.g., March 2025, which saw a high deficit due to inventory stockpiling) to a temporary low (e.g., October 2025), rather than looking at annual trends.
  • Monthly Changes: October 2025 saw a 39% drop in the monthly gap to $29.4 billion, which was indeed a low point since 2009. However, the deficit widened again in November and December, showing extreme volatility rather than a sustained, record-breaking collapse.
Center for Economic and Policy Research +5
2. The Role of Tariffs and Imports
  • Fact-Check: Partially True. Tariffs imposed on more than 100 countries in 2025 did impact trade, but not in the way described by the administration.
  • Import Shifting: Tariffs on China led to a 32% drop in the China-specific goods deficit (lowest in 20 years), but imports simply shifted to countries like Mexico and Vietnam.
  • Goods Deficit: The U.S. goods trade gap actually hit a record high in 2025 despite the tariff policy.
  • Costs: Analysis suggests that U.S. buyers, rather than foreign nations, bore roughly 94% of the tariff costs in 2025.
    Facebook +3
3. Recent 2026 Data
  • The trade deficit widened in February 2026 as imports rebounded.
  • While some specific months (like September/October 2025) showed significant drops, the overall trend has been volatile, and the trade deficit has remained historically high.
Conclusion: The trade deficit did not decrease by 78%, and 2025 finished with a deficit almost identical to 2024. The 2025 goods deficit, in particular, was very high, contradicting claims of a historic reduction.

The company paid over $1.7 billion in fines and penalties, settling allegations of systemic fraud, making it the largest healthcare fraud settlement in U.S. history at the time

Not a chance. He's WAY too smart for that.

When Dimon speaks on these issues people should listen.

Our debt problem is due to uncontrolled spending. Plenty of money is paid in taxes, more than enough actually.

Yes it is. I wonder how many of the people who agree with that statement, do little more than gripe about it, then turn around and vote the same legislators back in. The federal deficit is a factual time bomb which the nation seems to lack the political will to address with any veracity.

I think it's the delusion that if they ignore it, they somehow won't have to deal with it.

Well, consider that others have reasons not to resolve this problem.
