That's like $500 billion. Could be more. It'll be interesting to see how Congress would lay down for that since they control the purse strings

Well, let's see. There's about 270 million legal adult citizens in the US, so 5k each would cost about 1.35 Trillion dollars.

Maybe we'll be paid in Trumpcoin?

I am still waiting for Trump's $2,000 tariff stimulus check! I reckon mine must have gotten lost in the mail.
Call it a tax, the people are outraged! Call it a tariff, the people get out their checkbooks and wave their American flags!!!

"If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them," Mr. Trump said, "I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000."

Is he talking about the tariff wealth that was created by the consumers? They are gonna let us get some of that back?

Baier: $5000 for every adult citizen, that's about $1.3 trillion. The critics will say the president is bribing voters and he's bankrupting the country.

Vance: Tariffs have generated a lot of revenues. The president is saying, if you keep us in power, then you will share in some of the benefit of this incredible wealth that we are creating

Oh look another promise from Trump that Americans will get money.... what is this the 4th time he has said this or just the third?

There were DOGE cut rebates coming.......

Then there were tariff checks coming.......

And I think I am forgetting one.....

And none of them have happened.

It had the potential to do that. Congress just needed to act to help make the cuts permanent. But that is typical of government projects done by both parties. Lots of potential to be good but often a waste as the parties argue over it for voter points instead of making true change.

Permanent, they had no idea what they were cutting. We ended up going back and rehiring (at higher rates) and re-establishing programs they killed. Except the regulatory on AVs and the FAA (space), those we have not put back. USAID was the "devil". Hell, some of it went to fight Ebola. Trump had to re-allocate 1.4B back and to re-establish programs that were in place. Sorry, keeping Ebola in check seems pretty good investment, better than the crap they are spending it on. Better than more missiles for an Iran War with no point. DOGE was about freeing up Musk's companies to do what they wanted, that is all. You know Musk, the guy who one year later became the first trillionaire?

DOGE cuts to USAID have worsened the Congo's Ebola outbreak that has killed 500, experts warn | Fortune

They had no idea what they were cutting, the went by the description in the funding summary sheet.

That is a very short sighted position, especially with infectious disease. There problem will become our problem and the earlier we deal with it the less expensive. Not to mention the humanitarian side to the coin. Why should we help? Because we can. At least that would be the Christian view. Much better use of the money to redo the reflecting pool, or a ballroom bigger than .the White House or build a monument to Donald (being sardonic, I know the circa Berlin 1937 monument is a shrine to freedom...)

As usual you can't see past Trump.

WE have plenty of people here in the USA that need help. Spend that money on them. Veterans. Better Mental health..... ok lets be honest.... any sort of mental health because that is a joke in this country.

We should spend nothing on a disease that has killed 16,000 since 1976.

16,000.

And for that we spending millions every year on??? LOL. That is a joke. But I shouldn't expect more from someone who is ok with the government forcing things on people.

Like every other political figure, Trump has his share of exaggerations and lies. But he's a rank amateur competed to Biden, Obama, and others who constantly lie about everything. And their lies have been exposed at a prodigious rate.

Term limits, a balanced budget every year, and repealing the 16th & 17th amendments should be the top priorities.
I have no illusions about any of this happening soon.

However, I never thought I would see the US embassy in Jerusalem, the border closed, or the repeal of Roe v Wade in my lifetime and all 3 have happened over under Pres Trump. It's amazing what can be accomplished when people try.

In 1936 $5,000 went a lot further than it does in 2026. For example, it could buy a modest home in some places, if I'm not mistaken.

More importantly, the govt should never promise people money. It's a stupid idea that ignores basic economics. I'm always leery if any politician making such promises, even Trump. He should know better. It was incredibly foolish, especially doubling down on the second night. That said, I doubt very many voters will take it very seriously. Trump is famous for his bluster and hyperbole. This is probably another example. That's no excuse; it's the reality of his style as a New Yorker, real estate magnate, and reality TV star.
