Oh look another promise from Trump that Americans will get money.... what is this the 4th time he has said this or just the third?

There were DOGE cut rebates coming.......

Then there were tariff checks coming.......

And I think I am forgetting one.....

And none of them have happened.

Anyone that believes DOGE was about saving money is a fool.

It had the potential to do that. Congress just needed to act to help make the cuts permanent. But that is typical of government projects done by both parties. Lots of potential to be good but often a waste as the parties argue over it for voter points instead of making true change.

The idea was solid. It didn't rely on knowledgeable people to execute.

I have serious concerns with this $5,000-check proposal. We are already more than $40 trillion in debt, and I cannot support another massive spending package without a clear way to pay for it.

Tying government checks to the outcome of an election starts to sound like pay-to-play politics. Republicans should earn the support of the American people through good policy, not by promising another round of checks from Washington.

Meanwhile, the Senate has hundreds of House-passed bills waiting for action. Congress should be focused on getting that work done and putting our country on stronger financial footing.

Show me how this is paid for without adding to the debt. Until then, I cannot support it.

Well, it is a Cult of Personality. Just look at this Board how many defend Trump. I now know why the Apprentice, which sucked, stayed on the air for as long as it did.

We don't have a political party, we have a Cult of Personality. DeSantis does not have a personality.

No one said Trump was a true Christian. No one is qualified to judge that other than God. However, Trump's political accomplishments and goals are more aligned to Christian values than the Dems who are essentially a demonic death cult.

I am all in for DeSantis in 2028. He has always been all business and I like that. A veteran. No bone spurs. A problem solver . Not a ringleader of a circus or reality show host. And his record clearly shows he delivers on his promises.

China is not going to do that because they don't want to invest that much and Americans aren't going to buy many of their cars

Shouldn't Americans have the opportunity to buy their cars? Especially if they are made in the U.S. Let the marketplace decide. Not the politicians.

his alignment with "Christian Values" is such a farce . Lying, cheating, grifting, name calling, Meglomanic. Maybe your idea of Christian Values, not mine. My Christian values related to this are none of the things Trump is. I respect truthfulness, no blaming, humility, leadership, focused on the less fortunate ect.

That's a pretty decent free market argument but China is not interested in free markets and does my play by the same rules.

Well that may change. BYD is running circles around Tesla for half the price. Good cars if they weren't electric.

Permanent, they had no idea what they were cutting. We ended up going back and rehiring (at higher rates) and re-establishing programs they killed. Except the regulatory on AVs and the FAA (space), those we have not put back. USAID was the "devil". Hell, some of it went to fight Ebola. Trump had to re-allocate 1.4B back and to re-establish programs that were in place. Sorry, keeping Ebola in check seems pretty good investment, better than the crap they are spending it on. Better than more missiles for an Iran War with no point. DOGE was about freeing up Musk's companies to do what they wanted, that is all. You know Musk, the guy who one year later became the first trillionaire?

DOGE cuts to USAID have worsened the Congo's Ebola outbreak that has killed 500, experts warn | Fortune

They had no idea what they were cutting, the went by the description in the funding summary sheet.

So yeah like I said potential.

But ebola is not our concern. The countries where it happens it is their concern and job to fight it. Not my taxpayer money. Same for ANY US money going to other countries. Cut it all off.

That is a very short sighted position, especially with infectious disease. There problem will become our problem and the earlier we deal with it the less expensive. Not to mention the humanitarian side to the coin. Why should we help? Because we can. At least that would be the Christian view. Much better use of the money to redo the reflecting pool, or a ballroom bigger than .the White House or build a monument to Donald (being sardonic, I know the circa Berlin 1937 monument is a shrine to freedom...)

As usual you can't see past Trump.

WE have plenty of people here in the USA that need help. Spend that money on them. Veterans. Better Mental health..... ok lets be honest.... any sort of mental health because that is a joke in this country.

We should spend nothing on a disease that has killed 16,000 since 1976.

16,000.

And for that we spending millions every year on??? LOL. That is a joke. But I shouldn't expect more from someone who is ok with the government forcing things on people.

Our USAID on infectious disease is nothing. Diseases don't mutate right, so why do we need vaccines! You guys. Bet you think AI is great too... It can't hurt anything, just pull the plug.

***?

Like seriously? What have I said about vaccines? Oh that's right nothing.

I was talking about sending money to countries that have Ebola. We shouldn't spend money to cure their problem.

Sorry but the excuse of "it's a small amount" is how we get to a huge deficit and debt. A few million here, a few there and it adds up. Then it turns into a few 100 million. Then a few billion and suddenly we are spending billions more than we bring in. With large chunks going to other countries instead of our problems.

And you clearly don't pay any attention to other posters to follow their posting trends to know where I stand on AI.

As usual anyone who disagrees with you must be on the other side and "extreme" on all their views.

Term limits, a balanced budget every year, and repealing the 16th & 17th amendments should be the top priorities.
I have no illusions about any of this happening soon.

However, I never thought I would see the US embassy in Jerusalem, the border closed, or the repeal of Roe v Wade in my lifetime and all 3 have happened over under Pres Trump. It's amazing what can be accomplished when people try.

16th yes.

17th no. Keep it open to the people. We have too many government positions that the people don't get a say in already. We don't need more.

Have always had a Honda in my driveway since 1987. The Chinese will have to work awfully hard to end the streak. The Japanese have always had better quality when it comes to manufacturing vehicles. I don't even mind paying more for superior quality.

I want to get rid of 17th so that we can restore the wisdom of the Founders. The states would get a voice in the federal govt in a way they don't now.

It doesn't really matter because it's not going to happen.

totally agree on Jap cars. I've had many a Lexus over the years. My daily driver when in Dallas is a Subaru Outback. Love that car for city driving.
