I'm sure Trump knows what anything other than a devastating response will do to his credibility world wide. His threats would mean nothing, and he would lose all leverage.

The problem with Hulk smash is sometime Hulk smashes the wrong thing. Smashing USAID? Great. DOGE? Great. Deporting illegals and closing the border? Great. His nominees? Great.
Renaming the Gulf of Mexico? A pointless use of political capital and a distraction.
Hopefully he hasn't smashed the Gaza ceasefire/hostage deal with "we are going to deport all the Palestinians and turn Gaza into Monaco East." That rhetoric significantly decreases the willingness of the party to be deported to cooperate with a ceasefire.

Not that Hamas has cooperated with much of anything so far.
Trump has already backed off once on his threat to rain hell down on Hamas if the all hostages weren't released by his inauguration out of respect for the negotiations, but I seriously doubt he's backing off again - and he shouldn't. Time to either get back what's left of the hostages or otherwise obliterate what's left of Hamas.
One thing that is sort of off the table with the condition Gaza is in.....they don't care about getting bombed as their buildings are basically already in bad shape.

How do you obliterate what is left of Hamas to a greater degree than the IDF already has?

True the IDF has been extremely destructive to Hamas, but there are obviously still enough remnants of that terrorist regime to still hold a negotiating position - so they haven't been obliterated - and it can be done without U.S boots on the ground. And let's also not forget who their ultimate enemy is (I.e. us) that Isreal is mainly a road block in getting to.
Trump has said Neyenyahu can override this deadline so I wouldn't be surprised to see continued negotiations past the deadline.
Hap Arnold correctly observed that an Air Force was not sufficient to win a war. The IDF has already put boots on the ground, so it's a logical conclusion that US Air Power beyond what the IDF has already brought to bear won't affect the strategic situation to any great degree.
As far as negotiations, "we're going to conquer your territory and deport/subjugate all of y'all" pretty much precludes any negotiations.

Hamas is returning DEAD hostages and blowing up busses in Israel today. After thinkng about this a little today, I have been hearing about peace negotiations over there for basically my whole life. And there is no peace. There never has been. Agreement after agreement voided with terrorism from Hamas. Question, is it time to nuke Gaza? I'm being serious. They are animals and seem only capable of killing. I see no reason for that to change. I say nuke them.
