It would not surprise me at all. There is alot of corruption getting exposed and they for sure didn't want all of this coming out. Had their attempt been successful the GOP wouldn't really have had a well know name. You would have been running Vance or DeSantis or Pence against Kamala or whoever they decided to insert for this.
