I had some texts with a radical leftist friend the last few days. He's pretty much a walking stereotype: hates Christians, conservatives, and has major TDS. He instigated the texts by posting the Mississippi Semen Bill convinced Republicans were launching a national, anti-ejaculation theocracy ... there is a lot of information content in the fact that I had to share with him it was a Democrat troll job.
Despite that, he's a good dude and not one of those Democrat snowflakes that will cut off anyone that does not march in lockstep with regressive orthodoxy.
However, he's completely consumed with BlueAnon. For instance, he actually believes Elon Musk intentionally made a National Socialist salute. He believed (before the 2020 election) that Russian hackers stole the 2016 election. And he genuine believes Trump is a Russian asset.
Although I post "in character" here often to intentionally inflame or annoy, but I genuinely want to find a cultural place where we can have nuanced, complex discussions about important issues facing our nation. However, I am genuinely pessimistic that we can ever find a common ground. The left-wing disinformation campaign is so powerful, that I am not sure it can be penetrated. He and others are effectively brainwashed.
Like I did here, I often ask "with what policies of Trump do you disagree?" I asked why he hated Trump so much when he is a Clintonian Democrat. But often like here, the conversation reverted to the usual Orange Man Bad tropes and BlueAnon histrionics. It is impossible to break through the lack of self-awareness or hypocrisy that he simply cannot see. His primary response when not parroting BlueAnon Talking Points was telling me to stop watching NewsMax and listening to Joe Rogan (I am barely sure what is NewsMax and have only listened to maybe 10 episodes of Rogan over three years.
Sorry for the /CSB, but I am genuinely concerned for the future how we bridge between reality and disinformation. This is exponentially concerning given the global effort to instill disinformation into public policy and actively suppress dissent.
