Ken Paxton Enters U.S. Senate Race Against John Cornyn
Last updated
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, challenging incumbent Senator John Cornyn in the 2026 Republican primary. Paxton made his announcement on Laura Ingraham's Fox News program, stating his intention to support President Donald Trump's agenda and bring change to Texas. Cornyn, who has been in office for three decades and is seeking his fifth term, has faced criticism from Paxton regarding his record and alignment with Republican values.

While I have grown very tired of mr. Cornyn as he has showed NO balls and failing aimlessly in line with Trump BS and not calling him out, Paxton is just pathetic. I agree, who is behind door #3.

I'd vote for Jeffry Dahlmer over Paxton. Besides, is there any proof Paxton hasn't eaten Asian children?

Paxton would make Ted Cruz the "likable" Texas Senator.

The dislike for Paxton from the usual sources so far tell me he is exactly the right choice to replace Cornyn.

Nope. Ken Paxton is a POS who is corrupt as the day is long. I deal with his office on a daily basis and you'd be shocked at some of the actions the AG's office has taken. All of his underlings are leftists. He's done a lot of harm to Texas businesses. He's the last thing I would describe as "conservative."

I'm no fan of Cornyn but give me him over that corrupt and lying weasel.

I grew up in a working-class family, with a father who served as a police officer and a stay-at-home mom who instilled in me the values of hard work, integrity, and faith. These values shaped my life and my unwavering belief in Faith, Family, and Freedom.

I earned my education in International Relations and Public Policy, equipping me with the knowledge and skills to tackle the complex issues facing our state and nation. As a lifelong devout conservative, I have always put God first and fought for the values that make America strong. I'm married to my incredible wife, and together, we are raising our two young children with a commitment to faith and family.

Relocating to Texas from California was a pivotal decision for our family. Texas stands as the last great hope for Americaa state that abides by the Constitution, puts God at the center, and serves as a shining example for the entire nation. I am running for U.S. Senate to ensure Texas remains strong, prosperous, and free, and to fight for the principles that built this great state and country.

SLF poll shows Cornyn getting creamed by Paxton

News: Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) trails Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton by 16 points in a new poll commissioned by the Senate Leadership Fund, the GOP-leadership backed super PAC.

SLF is supporting Cornyn. Their poll has Cornyn trailing Paxton 56-40, according to two people briefed on the survey.

In a three-way contest with Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas), who is considering a run, Cornyn is down 10. Paxton pulled 44% to Cornyn's 34%. Hunt got 19% in the three-way race.

The survey, which was conducted from April 27 to May 1 by The Tarrance Group, also tested a general election contest between each potential Republican candidate and former Democratic Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas), who is mulling another Senate run. Cornyn led Allred by 6 points in the poll. Hunt was up 4 points. Paxton was down by 1 point.

Those results underscore a real fear for Republicans that Paxton, a MAGA loyalist who has faced a slew of legal troubles, is best positioned to win a primary but could struggle in a general election.

Some facts about Ken Paxton. He almost lost an eye playing hide and seek as a youngster. He became AG of Texas in 2015 and won his election without the endorsement of a single newspaper in Texas. I believe he reached a settlement for the State of Texas with Meta over privacy issues worth 800 million out of court, and recently the 1.4 billion dollar settlement with Google over their user date collections where they tracked movements and the searches users made while 40 other Attorney Generals got only 400 million in total from their lawsuits against Google.

Paxton has been very popular with the voters in the State of Texas in all of his elections and I notice that he has a 16 point lead over Cornyn in a recent poll. If this lead continues I wonder if Cornyn might bow out of the race and leave it between Wesley Hunt and Paxton. I would put my money on Ken Paxton either way. He is a very strong conservative which always attracts the bows and arrows, but that is what I like about him.

He ran for student government in the 80s. I should have taken him to one of those P Diddy freak offs. Could have saved us all a bunch of stress.

Paxton is a lot of things. Conservative isn't one of them - not really anyway. Sure he likes to sue businesses like Facebook to pad his conservative credentials, but his office is one of the most leftist of any Texas state agency. It's done much harm to the citizens of Texas.

But Pelosi is representative of most loons from San Francisco.

Cornyn is representative of most Texans.

Outside of the loon factor, better to have a powerful Texas senator than a senator that not only is starting from zero on the power scale but also a loon from a policy and personality perspective.

framing bias much?

Both have won a majority of the vote in multiple statewide elections in a purple state. How can either of them be that far from the center?

Interesting. Can you say more? A close relative just started at the AG's office and has been pleasantly surprised how openly conservative everyone is.

BTW, as I've posted, I am not a Paxton fan and will not vote for him.
