Republicans in the state are sounding the alarm about record-breaking primary turnout for Democrats,

Turnout in the Republican primary was also strong - 2.1 million, third largest midterm primary turnout, only behind the presidential years of 2024 and 2016.

Dems had around 2.8 million votes, second to their turnout in 2008.

Wouldn't that make it the largest midterm primary turn-out? If the other primary turn-outs were for Presidential nominations?

Sounds like a lot of people were motivated to vote out an incumbent...

Talarico presents a much better pitch than Beto 2.

More eloquent, less nutty, incorporates his religion without being judgmental.

He will pull a bunch of Independents and moderate Republicans.

He of course will also have the MSM behind him on a national level.

The election will be a tough fight for the R's as their candidates are weak.
Paxton really sucks. He comes across as a snake without a personality.

Jimmy the Fake Preacher is little more than a shorter, cleaner cut version of Robbie the Fake Mexican, slathered in sickeningly sweet dollop of purported Jesus Juice. Plus, instead of images of skateboarding through Whataburger parking lots or wearing a granny dress with a manbun, he looks like Opie Taylor on his way home from Sunday School.

Strip away the facade and it's the same old liberal tripe.

Jimmy the Fake Preacher...hahaha.

That is a good one, but many people prefer a Jimmy the Fake Preacher.

Indeed. I can't believe how many of my Christian friends have been snookered by the guy.

I think Cornyn might be able to beat him, but it will be tough. I think he beats Paxton.

how many of your good christian friends have been snookered by Piggy? Magotts unite!

Who is Piggy? I know you're a fan of calling names, but just identify who it is your referencing.

ah, who do you think. Who looks like a swine and certainly acts the Piggy part. What effing President tells media member "Be quiet Piggy"? That's your guy you good christians fawn all over Piggy and ironically , he isn't remotely christian by his words, actions, deeds. Why you good christians can support that Pig is so, so ironic. He doesn't believe a thing you do.

Do you think Biden was remotely Christian by his words, actions and deeds? How about the policies he supported?

Of course not.

I didn't vote for Trump because he's a good Christian. Hell, I don't even think the guy is a Christian. I voted for him because I thought his policies were more in line with my beliefs, and would be better for the country. He was the much lesser of the evils. And that has been the case.

I wouldn't expect a liberal guy to understand. As Baylor Dan used to say, "I can explain it to ya, but I can't understand if for ya."

"the Atlantic"..... Stories like this and Thune's statement may be more of an effort to influence Trump, rather than reflect what Trump is actually thinking. Trump does have a dilemma, in that it the rule of thumb (and a big ironclad thumb at that) is to always support incumbents. Yet, Paxton has been a far more loyal soldier than Cornyn. And while Trump does a great job of reconciling with former opponents, it typically requires the former opponents to actually join the movement and support it. What can Cornyn say to overcome this one?

This is fantastic news!

Looks like Paxton and Cornyn are going to a run-off... it blows my mind Cornyn is competitive. I havent met a single person in the last four years of attending Republican clubs and grassroots events that had a single kind word to say about his performance as Senator. And if you look at his campaign events, the turnout was abysmal.

The reason it's close is because both candidates are terrible.

Couldn't be a worse candidate than Paxton to run against Talarico. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if Talarico wins the evangelical vote that so often goes Republican.

Are we talking about the same evangelical vote that guys like you said wouldnt vote for Trump?

The only thing the evangelical vote cares about is Israel... they dont give a **** about morality.

I never said anything of the sort.

Your need to fit people into neat little stereotypes and categories is a real weakness. It inhibits both your listening skills and reasoning abilities. I'd suggest trying to drop the preconceived notions when engaging with others. They do you no favors, and make you look stupid.

As for evangelicals, that certainly isn't true based on the polls. But I'd also submit what you think moral and what most reasonable people think moral are probably two very different things.

As for Paxton, polls show him losing to both Crockett and Talarico in a tight race. Cornyn polls 3 points better than Talarico.

When you are morally bankrupt, but lack Trump's charisma, it's going to be difficult to beat a guy like Talarico.

The general election polling I've seen is all within margin of error. Not dispositive. Throw out the outliers, it's a point or two led for both of them, with 6-8% undecided. Winnable race. For either of them.

Yes, it will be a tough fight. But Talarico is Beto-esque glib, but is quite a bit more whacky. The attack ads are going to be brutal. He's actually well to the left of Crockett, just more polished.

dude, I'm probably more fiscally conservative than most here. Conservatism as been so *******ized in the US its pathetic. That is why I'm independent. I'm not Maga, I hate Trump. I have turned out to be right. The reason I didn't like him from the get go is He is Bad for the US. The US is a laughing stock. I guarantee I run a much tighter fiscal ship professionally and personal. I am socially progressive. What other people do ain't my business. I have enough trouble keeping me between the lines, much less worrying about who is sleeping with who. Whoa, there are some seriously non-christian up in here. No wonder Christianity can have a bad glow.

I believe it takes two thirds of the senate to vote for impeachment in order for that to take place. Since Paxton's wife at the time was a sitting senator, she could not vote leave 30 votes. Therefore 20 votes were necessary to convict Paxton on each Article of Impeachment. Most if not all garnered 14 votes to convict leaving 16 votes to not convict on each Article which would be six short of what they needed, not two.
