Sounds to me like they need to be cut off from the NBA.

Send them out on their own to find stadiums (probably high school gyms) to play in and negotiate contracts based on revenue generated then.

Like Steven Colbert's show they are losing $50 million per year. Maybe they should share his fate. It's called supply & demand and they aren't creating enough demand to break even.

The craziest part of the whole scam is that they have been more popular than ever the past year solely because of Caitlyn Clark and they hate her!

WNBA players wore warmup shirts with the phrase "Pay us what you owe us". A $40 million loss means each player owes about $280000 for the privilege of being in the WNBA.

Nationally there is minimal fan interest in the WNBA.

The league has lost millions of dollars every year of it's existence.

Time to fold this dog and pony show.

I looked at the rosters and did not see Caitlyn Clark's name anywhere. I also did not notice any Baylor alums.

"Pay us what you owe us" is a pretty precarious declaration to make considering pretty much everyone is well aware of the WNBA financial picture. It's being shared as a meme or a joke, but dividing the loss amongst the players and them actually owing the league money would quite literally be them getting what is deserved. It is absolutely delusional for WNBA players to expect to be paid like NBA players. There is quite literally next to no demand for this league to even exist. I'm honestly quite baffled why several cities, including my own beloved Cleveland were vying for an expansion franchise. Cleveland had one and it failed and went under.

If the league completely went away, you'd have the typical shrieking feminists go off for a year or two and then everyone would forget it ever existed. If the NBA wants to spend some of its profit floating a women's league, I have no problem with it. But the players forgetting their place, playing like wild animals and attacking the best thing to happen to them since the inception of the league (Caitlyn Clark), and demanding outsized salaries on par with other profitable professional sports will quickly turn public opinion against them. There is no rational argument for higher pay.
Sic Everyone.

"Pay us what you owe us"

Not sure what the point of that is.

We know what they are owed, nothing.

Thanks to the NBA being so profitable they can write off millions each year, so they get to have a league.

Not sure what else they are getting at.

Quote:

  • Historical Average:
The WNBA has been operating at an average loss of around $10 million per year since its inception.
  • Recent Reports:
In 2024, reports indicate that the WNBA is expected to lose $50 million, a substantial increase from the historical average.
  • Factors Contributing to Losses:
Despite increased revenue from ticket sales, merchandise, and media deals, the league's expenses, including player salaries and operating costs, may be contributing to the increased losses.

LMAO they "want" a new CBA... Yeah it's called having a job.

And what would you guys do in their shoes? Say "hmmmm, so our business loses money every year, huh... Why dont we just play for free?" No of course they want money. You do too. We all want a slice of the pie.

I think you're missing the point. Plenty of WNBA players are loudly and repeatedly making the claim they need to be paid like NBA players. I'm not suggesting they play for free, merely that they have some self awareness and realize they exist solely because of the NBA's charity. If I were them, I'd probably be counting my blessings, doing what I can to maximize my brand to make what I can in endorsements, and keeping my mouth shut on my salary hoping the NBA doesn't reconsider.

The point is - there is no pie.

No one would play for free.

But we all understand how businesses work.

If you are working for a company or even a contractor and you know the company is going through a down year and losing money you do not go into your bosses office and demand a raise.

In the business world we all know that doing so would cause you to, most likely with about 95% chance, lose your job as they tell you to leave.

If you are a contractor and demand more the company will find a new company for cheaper when your contract runs out.

It is called business sense which none of these women, their teams, agents, etc seem to have.

Yep, if the WNBA has to pay more and in effect lose more, the WNBA may have to market itself to more than just lesbians. That may mean more clean cut types and cleaner play. No men want to watch a sport where women try to play like men.

That's too bad. She is the only reason most people are interested in watching the WNBA.

This should be simple: agree to revenue sharing in which the players get a percentage of profits for a certain number of years. Since the league makes zero profit, their share will be zero. I'd hate to be the guy who has to explain to them simple math but that's a separate issue.

If they actually start making a profit then it would be more complicated.

They are delusional. They are not worth the same as NBA players. The attendance of their games & tv ratings should provide clues.

They might need remedial classes in economics and math to understand the reality of the situation. Maybe the classes should start with the laws of supply & demand.
