Old Sam is a hoot. Total nutjob who hates America, but a hoot nonetheless.

You've chosen to remain ignorant of your own country's flaws, as most people do. It's human nature. But I have to give you credit...I've seen very few who worked so hard at it. From Guantanamo to Abu Ghraib, Gaza, Ukraine, Iran, Venezuela, etc., you've turned a blind eye to every kind of lawlessness and brutality almost without exception. Truly a moral giant among men.

I would submit that understanding that our country has made mistakes in the past, and believing that we are a force for evil are two very different things. For you, America is a force for evil. Nothing it does is right, moral or just. In that sense, you remind me of the far left progressives that take to the streets to protest how evil we are.

But what makes it so much worse in your case is your ability to turn a blind eye to the actions of desperate and dictators. I've heard you defend Iran, Venezuela, and Russia more than your own country.

You are the poster child of the dangers of sending your kids to college. You've been indoctrinated to loathe your country.

Epstein files have been pretty scary.

Let's see, they're eating humans, using torture chambers on kids for blood transfusions, and they're proud pedos. Fwiw, a lot of them seem to use the term Goyim. Hmmm

Remember when the conspiracy theorists told you that our country was run by a cabal of pedos. The conspiracy theorists are batting 1000 over the past decade. Pizzagate was real, you shouldn't be surprised. Seems like lots of celebs and famous people ... and political folks as well.

Crazy demonic stuff, and we know they won't perp walk anyone. And the released stuff is the stuff that they didn't burn. And sadly, we can't really know what's real or not (within reason), because they've had these files for a decade or more and could easily have altered or removed content.

So pray for justice. Of course, vote conservative/repub, but vote in the primaries for new people who won't stand for this crap.

The bold print says it all. I don't know how true all of this stuff is, but in the end it doesn't matter. If new people don't win the primaries, you'll still support any monster who does.

Thanks for the prayers, though.

LOL, progressives are worse. So sitting out elections is a stupid option. I didn't pick the system, I vote the best I can, sometimes it's picking the best of two not so great choices. Trump may not stop all the stuff I disagree with, but he's 100 times better than the closest Democrat. Easy choice, only weak minded manipulated Christians sit out elections.

Progressives aren't that much worse. They just happen to like different aspects of Christianity from the ones that you like.

No, they like things that aren't Christian. There is next to nothing Christian in their platform.

Like I said, not much difference.

Indeed, I could see how a non-Christian would believe there isn't much difference between the platforms - failing to recognize the evil inherent in a platform that celebrates a culture of death and rampant sexual immorality.

The R's don't have the market cornered on morality, and there are plenty that fail to live up to Christ's standard. But there is a reason committed, true Christians aren't Democrat, and by and large vote conservative.

I hope you find the narrow gate, my friend.

You've voted for at least as many Democrats as I have.

Bolded part is important.

You might not agree with the Dems' culture of death and rampant sexual immorality, but when you can't see much daylight between that and a conservative platform, and aren't willing to do much of anything about it, you are likely lost.

This is what blows me away. Trump and Paxton are two of the most immoral people ever to seek office, yet conservatives are dragging 40-foot crosses and giving themselves lashes to vote for these people. Evangelicals keep applying the values that they want in public life to people who don't have them.

No one had voted for Trump because they like his personal life.

It is also ******ed to claim Trump & Paxton more immoral than the Clintons, Kennedys, Anthony Weiner, Pelosi, Ilan Omar, the Cuomos, etc.

No conservatives are going to extremes to vote for anyone... you are such a weirdo. We simply cast our vote for the better candidate. No lashes or crosses required.

But you don't vote for Clinton's or Weiner because they're offensive to your values. But you'll vote Paxton over Cornyn?

What exactly did Paxton do that has you people so outraged?

He cheated on his wife?

Who gives a *****

That matters to a lot of people. Others care how he uses taxpayer money to keep his mistress. Some might care that republicans impeached him a bit for that wife he cheated on, he'd have been removed.

You might not

Trump cheated on his wife.

What matters to me is are you going to make my life less miserable than the other guy.

Tell us you're not conservative without telling us you're not conservative.

Haven't met a progressive yet that was a professing/practicing Christian.

Sounds like it has to do with where you live. I don't know a single practicing Christian out here who is conservative, plenty who are progressive (for obvious reasons - the whole love your neighbor, welcome the foreigner parts of the Bible and whatnot).

Respectfully, you can't be progressive and an actual Christian. The two beliefs are not compatible.

Ridiculous. Jesus was a progressive. To understand how radical he was, you'd have to know a little about how counter cultural Christianity was to Roman, Greek, really all culture of that day. And how different it was from any American denomination.

And I'm not saying real Christians live the life of the 12 disciples and meet horrible torturous ends, make no money, spend their days mostly homeless, but i am saying you show much ignorance making such a respectful and absolute statement.

Anyone that thinks the Jesus described in scripture in anyway mirrors today's progressives needs to crack open the gospels.

You literally could not find a political group more diametrically opposed to Christ.

You can make that case if you want, but there are plenty of progressives throughout history, including today, that are in line with Jesus' radical teachings. Painting with such a broad brush is just ig'nant as they say around here. You should get out of your bubble once in a while.

Trump may not stop all the stuff I disagree with, but he's 100 times better than the closest Democrat. Easy choice, only weak minded manipulated Christians sit out elections.

Progressives aren't that much worse. They just happen to like different aspects of Christianity from the ones that you like.

If by "progressive," you mean people with radical views that advocate for change, perhaps in that sense, if we are just going for the definition in Webster's. However, if you mean today's progressives here in the U.S., and the causes they support, it would be hard to find a more diametrically opposed set of beliefs to Christ.

Show me a conservative, and I'll vote for him. You don't like gays and abortion, we get it. Not everyone votes based on one or two issues.

Catholics who support abortion are not , in fact, Catholic .

However Waco47 claims to be a ' minister ' of the Pick and Choose denomination.

Suspect they have a place for you..

He'll of course protest and tell you he's pro-life.

He just doesn't vote for pro-life candidates.

I've voted for nothing but pro-life candidates.

We talking about the two or three times the Repubs actually ran a decent candidate?

FIFY

That would verify you having only voted 2-3 times since you said you vote pro life and dems haven't had a pro life candidate for decades.

You've painted yourself into a corner.

I really couldn't care less

Indeed, this has been the case for years. In practice, you couldn't care less if Christians lose the culture war on issues such as abortion and sexual immorality. You've proven that with every election you've sat out.

You've claimed to admire Pat Buchanan. Have you ever read any of his books? Does he loathe his country?

Indeed, there are many things about Buchanan that I liked. He was a very strong critic of abortion, gay rights, and the removal of prayer from public schools - so he got an A+ on cultural issues. I also came to appreciate his quasi-isolationist mindset, which for the most part saw him argue against foreign interventions and believing that the U.S. should focus on its own interests rather than acting as a global policeman or promoting democracy abroad.

Did I agree with all of his views? Nope. I think his position on Israel was off-base. But I don't recall Buchanan feigning over dictators and despots. I don't recall one-sided critiques of US foreign policy. I don't believe Buchanan would have supported the Ayatollah's quest for nuclear weapons. I don't believe he would have voiced support for evil men like Putin and Maduro, or attempted to argue that their wars of aggression were somehow morally just.

In that sense, you are nothing like Buchanan. You more closely resemble the obnoxious leftist protestors we see across college campuses, who blame America for the world's ills, while praising islamic and despotic regimes. That is much closer to your beliefs than Buchanan.

I support what most people claim to support, i.e. a deal that would prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Republicans don't want such a deal, as evidenced by the fact that they scrapped it at the first opportunity.

As for voting, it's surreal to be lectured on civic responsibilities by people who helped put an insurrectionist in power. I don't think I'm making the perfect the enemy of the good just because I want a candidate with some semblance of loyalty to the United States and the Constitution.

I have never started who I'm voting for in the US Senate primary, because I have not made up my mind on that decision.
The original comment that I was responding to was about voting for Trump or Paxton because of their personal values.
I would vote for Trump over Clinton because Bill raped a woman and took advantage of our young girl in the oval office... while Trump was falsely accused by a psycho woman who claimed that she had fantasies about being raped.
Trump isn't an angel, but he's far better than Bill Clinton... and so are his policies.

My voting is based upon policies not personality or personal life. Clinton & Weiner are leftist liars... which is why I would never vote for either of them.

Jesus has nothing in common with modern day "Progressives".
Jesus teaching was radically different than the Greek, Roman or Jewish cultures of that time. That doesn't make him on part with crazy leftist nut jobs.
Also, modern "progressives" are not in contrast to modern culture. The Progressive left ideas are fully backed & supported by the mainstream culture. Just watch any TV show, movie or "news" show. "Progressives" are radically different from the teachings of Jesus, not the modern culture.

To the contrary, I read Churchill, Hitler, and the Unnecessary War many years ago, and I think he gets that badly wrong. Terribly. In fact, I'd submit his positions on appeasing Germany (which is essentially what he argued in the book) are one of the reasons he isn't president. He has some very fringe and unpopular views on some issues.

As for his commentary on Ukraine, he's not wrong. As I've said for years, Biden provoked that war with his rhetoric, no question. But you will notice in his commentary, he doesn't go nearly as far as you do in saying Putin was justified in invading, nor does he attempt to argue that the war falls within the just war theory. He also doesn't make excuses for Putin. Saying he's not as bad as Stalin is a fact, but doesn't make him the decent guy you've tried to make him.

As stated above, your positions go far beyond Buchanan's into the fringe, leftist elements that believe America is evil, and the evil men are good dudes. Yours is the kind that is protesting the capture of Maduro, arguing he's a good dude.

As I said, you're no Buchanan.

As for voting, let's not pretend your sitting out election cycles started in 2024. You've been doing this crap since 2000.

Rather than saying Jesus was a progressive, it's more accurate to say progressives borrow many historically Christian ideas...e.g. commitment to the common good, support for workers and labor, rejection of unfettered markets.

You're obviously not very familiar with his work. My critique of the war with Japan, which has caused you such enduring outrage over the years, was largely based on Buchanan's. As you can see from this commentary, his opinion on Ukraine is much the same as mine. The same goes for Iran.

No doubt Buchanan has some unpopular views. The question I asked, which you still haven't answered, is whether you believe he loathes his country.

I've never argued that Putin or Maduro were good dudes. I have tried to counter some of the overheated propaganda about "dictators and despots" that you mindlessly regurgitate every time the war drums start beating. As if the US didn't have a long history of supporting regimes that were as bad or worse whenever we thought it suited our interests.

Whether Russia's war in Ukraine is technically justified is immaterial. I initially assumed it wasn't, but it's a complex question, as I came to understand after you began harping on it and I studied it a little more closely. But you're not really interested in the details of Just War Theory any more than you're interested in the welfare of Ukraine.

I cast my vote or not depending on what I think is in the best interest of my country. You're a culture warrior who wants to impose your values on everyone else, by any means necessary, no matter the cost to the republic. Don't ever imagine that makes you any kind of patriot.

Progressives aren't that much worse. They just happen to like different aspects of Christianity from the ones that you like.

If by "progressive," you mean people with radical views that advocate for change, perhaps in that sense, if we are just going for the definition in Webster's. However, if you mean today's progressives here in the U.S., and the causes they support, it would be hard to find a more diametrically opposed set of beliefs to Christ.

Modern progressives are simply at the end of their little pendulum swing. In a cosmic sense, where tgey are is irrelevant. Yes I was talking about progressives, not modern Anerican progressives. Picking a bit of a technicality bone with you, my bad.

I thought my answer was pretty obvious, but no, I don't believe Buchanan loathes his country. While I don't agree with him on everything, he still seemed to understand the culture war issues, and the battle that must be won there. And he wasn't against all foreign involvement, and didn't cozy up or praise dictators and despots. Also, despite having a different philosophy than Trump on a number of issues, Buchanan was a pragmatist and understood the importance of Republicans winning elections, given the alternative, which is why he endorsed Trump in 2016 and 2024.

So, again, he was a LOT different than you.

As for the dictators you regularly support on these boards, kind of difficult to walk that back my dude. You're been a staunch defender of Putin in particular despite his attacks on civilian centers, his assassinations of political opponents, etc. The idea that you did those things to counter my positions, while touching, is too absurd to believe, even for as odd a duck as yourself.

As for me being a culture warrior who wants to impose my values, that's an interesting position. What values do you believe I want imposed on others, exactly? And what is your position on abortion and homosexuality again? Some clarification is definitely in order.

This has been explained ad nauseum, but some people are never going to get it (or at least they don't want to get it). Trump, past moral failings and all, is and has been obviously the best alternative for believing/practicing Christians because of his stances and support for the issues people of Christian faith care about. We aren't voting for a pastor or a Sunday School teacher - we're voting for the strongest supporter of our values and the values that made America the country it is. It really isn't that difficult to understand.

Do you put salt or mustard on this pretzel you've twisted yourself into.

Is your stance acceptable for your personal life? Can you tell your people that although you have abysmal behavior you do it in support of Christ? (And if you can, give me tips so I can use them at home)

Deciding that one flawed person (which by the way includes all of us) is a far better option than another flawed person isn't "twisting yourself into a pretzel" - it's making a common sense decision. In 2016 either Trump or Hillary was going to be POTUS; in 2020 either Trump or Biden was going to be POTUS, and in 2024 either Trump or Harris was going to be POTUS. You can whine all you want about wishing for other options, but bottom line it was a binary choice each of those 3 times and it should therefore be beyond easy to understand why Trump would be the choice for Christians each time.

Your other point makes no sense whatsoever. Of course emulating bad or immoral behavior from another flawed individual you may have supported in some way isn't acceptable and is otherwise totally beside the point (talk about "twisting yourself into a pretzel").
