I really enjoy reading Leviticus 25:44 that tells us it is okay for us to own slaves from neighboring countries. Personally, I prefer slaves from Mexico over Canada. The Mexican slaves work harder and you don't have to pay them as much.

I really enjoy reading Leviticus 25:44 that tells us it is okay for us to own slaves from neighboring countries. Personally, I prefer slaves from Mexico over Canada. The Mexican slaves work harder and you don't have to pay them as much.

This is where context matters. Certainly in modern times, Slavery is commonly condemned (except of course by militant Muslims) today, but you need to understand that it was originally created as an act of mercy. Nations fought to wipe out enemies, down to the babies, and we see some of those wars reported in OT Scripture. Slavery was a device created to spare prisoners who surrendered, provide a way to end a war short of genuine genocide.

You may note that the Old Testament installed rules for how slaves had to be treated. There were limits to what the slave owner could do, specified and implied rights for slaves, and even ways for slaves to purchase their own freedom.

Given the world of that time, the Mosaic directions on Slavery were impressively moral. It gets missed today because those same precepts are twisted to imply cruelty and bigotry, in order to attack the culture.

I get your point here, and you do have a point that people tend to pick and choose which sins are bad and which they can choose to commit. My point is we all sin, but we have to genuinely try to NOT sin. We don't hold Liar Pride parades, we don't have Murderer Pride Month, no Covet thy neighbor's wife week, etc. So there is sin we commit against our own wishes, and those sins some choose to elevate to exalted status in society. That is what makes people focus on particular sins over others.

Homosexuality is a lifestyle sin, and for Christians, it's a continuous rebellion against God. Yet it is celebrated and encouraged by progressive churches and society. Additionally, because it's a lifestyle sin, it involves relationships, possibly spouses-by-law and children, and can be very difficult to unwind out of. Also, it has become an identity - an identity that requires constant validation and acceptance. Instead of being Christian, they are homosexual Christians. And they will try to draw more into their community and beliefs. There is no disputing this, the slippery slope has been right every time - because for progressives, enough is never enough.

As for the Colossians sins, these behaviors aren't viewed as positive by Christians, in fact they are viewed as sinful flaws that shouldn't be practiced. They are mostly individual sins, but certainly any one of them in excess can have profound impact on others.

Is one worse than the other - from an individual perspective I'd say it depends. Both can be very destructive to one's soul. But from a societal perspective, I think it's easy to see that the homosexual sin has become much worse, in the sense that it is proudly encouraged by society and draws many young people into a consistent life of rebellion against traditional Christianity.
