Not sure what the State of Louisiana has to do with this, but I'm sure it's critical to solving ... hell, I don't know what.

sending a medical ship to provide medical services to an under-served island of great strategic importance is good diplomacy.

Sending a boat to someone who didn't ask for it is wonderful diplomacy!

I hope Louisiana reaps great benefits from its efforts.

Using logic and common sense, you'd think so, but to the TDS'ers of the world, if Trump is involved it must somehow be evil and wrong.

Possibly the hospital ship was being re supplied in Louisiana and the governor expedited the loading.

Don't see any controversy here ; unless one is predisposed to to create one.

Perhaps, though reports are that the two hospital "boats" the US possesses are in Mobile Bay,

This is stupid. You know it's stupid.

That is not what I think at all! I am thinking somehow, some way his family is getting paid.

Honest question - what is the criteria to send hospital boats to other countries.

Greenland is not in crisis.

Formal Terminology
Commissioned Surface Combatants: Formally referred to as "United States Ship" (USS). These are never called boats.
Non-Commissioned Active Status Ships: Formally referred to as "United States Naval Ship" (USNS).
Submarines: Officially designated with hull classifications like SSN, SSBN, or SSGN (Submersible Ship/Subsurface).
Small Craft/Boats: Smaller, non-commissioned, or specialized vessels (e.g., rigid-hull inflatable boats, harbor tugs) are officially termed "craft" or "boat".
Legal Term: In official regulations, all watercraft are considered vessels.
U.S. Naval Institute
U.S. Naval Institute

Informal/Traditional Terminology
Submarines: Universally called "boats" by their crews (submariners) as a point of pride, even if they are larger than some World War II surface ships.
Submarine Command: The senior enlisted person on a submarine is known as the "Chief of the Boat" (COB).
Aircraft Carriers: Often referred to by their crews as "the boat".
Small Combatants: Vessels such as Patrol Craft Fast (PCF) used in Vietnam were known as "Swift Boats".
General Rule of Thumb: "You can put a boat on a ship, but you can't put a ship on a boat".

Key Takeaway: A sailor on a submarine will almost always call it a "boat." A sailor on a cruiser, destroyer, or carrier will call their vessel a "ship," though they might informally say they are "going to the boat" for duty.

Calling the Mercy and/or Comfort "boat" is just fine unless you suffer from TDS in which case you have other issues such as an inability to think logically.

Call a Naval Officer's surface ship a "boat" and watch his/her reaction. I do think it's funny that the Commander in Chief doesn't know that, but whatever. No big deal.

Jack's question is a good one, and I don't the answer except that, apparently, no request from the host country is necessary.

You seem very confident. In your confidence, you should google the following:

'"Return to the boat' navy pilot"

Perhaps afterwards you can explain why the phrase "the boat" is used so much in naval aviation.

May want to look into the underserved part. They actually have free healthcare same as Denmark. Not sure why all of a sudden the US is saying. Scandinavian health care is bad.

Anyway, they are reporting a US crew of a boat was rescued off Greenland by the Danish Navy and flown to Greenland. And they said they dont need a hospital ship, please ask them before posting on social media.

That is as objective as I can find.

Correction - US crewmember had to be removed from a ship for medical purposes. Danish Navy heli ported to Greenland as medical assistance. Actually, showing allies working together and the Danes helped one of ours out. That makes more sense. All this could be about an appendicitis. Much to do about nothing, probably happens once a month around the world. They help ours, we help theirs.

Actually the world would be a better place if Governments acted more like the militaries they support!

Perhaps you should google "no big deal."

In the meantime, both Greenland and Denmark have said that they did not ask for, and do not want, a United States hospital boat/ship/vessel at this time. Greenland's Prime Minister suggested that if we want a dialogue with his country, random rants on social media aren't the way to go about it.

Many of you here suffer from a different form of TDS, and I've always wondered something that you can answer for me:

How does it taste?

Edit: Sorry, 5630, this post wasn't in response to you.

I'm happy to criticize Trump. I'm also happy to point out TDS symptoms of the Never Trumpers, like wrongly making an issue over boat/ship/vessel or saying Two Corinthians, just like Alistair Begg does.

Trump provides enough subject matter for disagreements that y'all pointing out non-typical or non-formal word usage is lame.

Stick to what matters before your errors are pointed out to you. You'll look smarter in the long run.

Headscratcher. We could dock the boat off the coast of New Orleans (Beaumont, Birmingham, Gulfport, West Virginia) and have 6 months of needy Americans to service. Greenland has free healthcare.

Tell me more about the Louisiana governor and his hospital boat. And why we would spend taxpayer money to reposition it to Greenland while naval forces are massing a tad closer to Iran than Greenland.
