This reminds me of the Gulf War in 1990:
Rush Limbaugh had the original audio of this on the radio with "Bomb Iraq." Just the other day I was thinking it should be revived and someone did!
Nothing about this is like the Gulf War. Iran as a nation state has already hit back harder than Iraq did. Iran is an actual country, with 4x the population and 6x the land mass of Iraq. It's not just lines on a map drawn up by the British in the 1900s.
So if this fails to effect "regime change", what next?
we should probably give it at least 48 hours before declaring failure...
If we're going to war, we probably should think it out a little beyond 48 hours.
Not to worry. It is in fact a 96-hour plan.
Well, we will see. Venezuela may have given Donald a false sense of security. We will see what the follow up moves are. Not Donald's strength. Hope someone thought this out beyond the sound bites. What are the mission objectives? When do they know what success is or isn't? Not hearing much on that.
Not criticism, just discussion now that the initial stage is over.
initial stage is not over - 3 days was - more or less - the initial phase.

this has been war gamed and planned out for a loooong time.
ok, let me re-phrase. I keep forgetting this Board can require very exact wording from select people. So...
To be exact. Initial contact. Initial contact is over, we made our moves. Iran has now started their moves and will be reaching a re-load point, what adjustments are made? EVERY plan does not go as planned, it is the nature of conflict. Not a value judgement, what has DoD have planned?
ISR knows where everything / everyone is.
so, starting w/ that.....

and basically no Iranian air defenses, and the ability to drop a precision missile down a chimney stack....
D!
Come on, it is a live war versus a live opponent. It does not go according to a script. Humans are not logical and Religious zealots are even less so.
They are firing missiles. Even the best ADA is not fool proof. What is in the warheads? Where are they aiming?
They hit Dubai and UAE because those populations are not used to war, like Israel. That was a curve ball. How do we react? When politics starts?
They lobbed a few ballistic missiles at the Lincoln. That was a curve. They didn't get close according to CENTCOM, but now you have to work that in. Maybe target lists change? Maybe we have to sent in small groups to take those sites we can't reach with airpower in the mountains.
It gets complicated and it does not mean it is bad or mistake. There are several on here with a lot of real world experience, their inputs on next steps and evaluations are interesting. Some in military, some in law, some in policy, some in intel. If everything has to be cheerleading, no real discussion happens. I for one would love to hear it.
