BIG inch pipeline (built in 1 year)

Big Inch and Little Big Inch
3,831 Miles of Pipeline Threatening Our Public Lands

The Big Inch and Little Big Inch are historic WWII-era pipelines (1942-1944) built by the US government to safely transport crude oil and refined products from Texas to the Northeast. Spanning ~1,400 miles, these 24-inch and 20-inch pipelines were vital in securing oil transport, delivering over 300,000 barrels per day to aid Allied forces.

Key Aspects of the Big Inch Pipeline:
Purpose:
Created during World War II to transport oil from Texas to the Atlantic Coast, avoiding U-boat attacks on sea tankers.
Dimensions:
The "Big Inch" (crude oil) had a 24-inch diameter, while the "Little Big Inch" (refined products) had a 20-inch diameter.
Route:
Connected Longview, Texas, to the New York/Philadelphia refining area, specifically passing through Little Rock, Arkansas, and Norris City, Illinois, before reaching Linden, New Jersey.
Construction:
Construction started in 1942 and was completed in 350 days, with oil flowing in August 1943.
Impact:
Considered a "potent weapon of war," it provided over 300,000 barrels of oil daily, significantly aiding the Allied war effort.
Legacy:
Sold in 1947, the pipelines still exist today, primarily transporting natural gas.

This is ridiculous.

Who besides UK and France and perhaps Italy have a navy that has assets that could actually assist?

Other countries would have to use other types of assets in the area.

Europe is woefully short on its own defensive military power. More so in its maritime convoy type strength.

Strange since UK and Australia possess no oil productivity.

Oh well.

Destroy Iranian oil facilities.

Won't take much effort at all.

Trump now begging Europe, and yes, even China for help in the Strait of Hormuz. It's fair to say we're witnessing one of the most embarrassing military misadventures in US history.

We make commercial pilots retire at 65, generals and admirals retire by 68, in each case, regardless of health.

Seems pretty reasonable to hold the people literally running the country to the same/a similar standard.

Who actually gets their oil through the Straits?

UK and Europe get it from the US, Norway and Kazakhstan.

We get it from domestically and Canada

This is a China, India and Asia issue.

What is the impact of us doing this on BRIC?

If I were India and Asia I would be pissed. We are messing with their oil with no plan and now making them send ships.

Any impact? This seems poorly thought out and seems we have picked Israel over Japan and S Korea.

We picked Israel over everyone else. This attack was done without consultation with any of the countries in the region and globally who are affected.

The whole "shared values" thing holding us together in the post WW-2 environment has been gone for a while. We are just figuring it out, which means we have been being milked. Their loyalties lie where they think they can best butter their bread, as arguably they should. At least it is now becoming apparent to more people.

For the same reason we sank all of Japan's oil tankers during WW2

To cut off the life blood of their military and economy.

This is not remotely a tough decision.

And then what?

Say we bomb Iran back to Afghanistan levels of development...this still wont affect their ability to close the Straits of Hormuz. All it will do is ensure a more thorough and longer disruption of the world's oil supply.

For the short term, it might be an easy decision. But Trump is looking long term: we are hoping that a new Iranian regime will be friendlier and more stable. If that happens, then they will need a strong economic infrastructure to get a good start. Geopolitical issues are almost always more complicated than they seem.

The real question is what kind of government will Iran have in a few months or a few years?

I thought the purpose here was removing the nuclear threat... not slaughtering millions of people or raise the cost of oil to 100 a barrel.

Unlike Japan, Iran didnt attack America. America attacked Iran.

Iran has been attacking us for the better part of half a century.

It's been pretty clear for years that removing the nuclear threat would require a change in government.

Just like we removed the emperor of Japan as the pseudo leader of Japan.
