How did we get to a place where our only way out of a war and future economy is dependent on Israel?

Israel rented 3/4ths of our government.

It would be interesting to hear her explanation.

I have always wondered what was the correct view of U.S. political capital. Do we have limited supply, limited favors we can call in? If that is true, did all of NATO refuse to go to war because we used our capital up after 9/11? Is the world turning a blind eye to what Israel did in Gaza/Lebanon because we are their ally, but that is as far as they will go?

Or is the whiterock view correct, that might makes right, and as long as we stay on top, we have unlimited political capital? I would think Rice's explanation would go this route. Tehran lost ballistic capability, its Navy, and therefore their symmetrical warfare capabilities are weaker, which makes their entire block weaker. Ours remain mostly the exact same, expending very little. Because we have unlimited political capital, there is no change there.

"did all of NATO refuse to go to war because we used our capital up after 9/11?"

They refused because the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has nothing to do with policing the Strait of Hormuz. It's humiliating that we even asked them too, and doubly so that we did it after insulting them and saying we didn't need their help. A more competent President who hadn't already pissed away his political capital (which, as you insinuate, is not unlimited) would have attempted to form a coalition of willing partners before kicking the hornets nest.

People like Whiterock live in a partisan fantasy. Listening to them is useful insofar as it's a window into the MAGA spin machine, but it's mostly just them trying to support their wishful thinking with carefully curated numbers and statistics.

I agree with this, but it is not quite as simple as one member of an alliance asking the rest to do something. We are the sugar daddy for the whole shebang. The sugar daddy asked individuals in the alliance to take on a side gig, and they all said no. It is certainly logical to refuse, but there was a time when they would have said yes, simply because they need their sugar daddy.

And they still need their sugar daddy, so the question is, what exactly has changed? Do we have less sway in world politics, or the same, and there is another reason?

You haven't read art of the deal? The first thing you do is flood them with BS. Trump's war is not with Iran, it's with us! Convincing Americans that we need another war in the Middle East!

Bibi really got one over on him. Flooded Trump's cabinet with "we will win fast, just a little push and the people will rise, the Kurds are ready" BS. Trump probably gave Bibi the book and 10 MAGA hats back in 2016. Plenty of time to read the book.

What do you mean? This administration doesn't lie as much as others did. Not even close…

Not sure they are capable of doing more than they are. They've been full of bluster since (and before) October '23. We forget how much they make Trump's on/off public statements seem level headed.

They don't need a navy to close the strait. It isn't too wide to monitor and use drones and missiles. They can still drop mines from rowboats if they want.

They can definitely hit anywhere in the Mediterranean with missiles. Probably not with any accuracy, but one missile hitting anywhere in Rome would be quite the statement...

That would be one way to draw NATO in.

Art of the deal?

You do realize before Trump realized and attained the Govt grift he was doing so bad he was on Reality TV for 9 years. Rarely does his feals work out. The best gig he had had is in Government there he made real money.

Afghanistan has nothing to do with the North Atlantic.

When Trump decided to strike Iran, he should have done so with the purpose of getting rid of the criminal regime that has been in charge there for the better part of a half century. It does little good to kick the can down the road with Iran.
