The City of McKinney established the rules and procedures for such an application. As you noted, Collin County (and McKinney) is heavily conservative, so I suppose those were approved by conservative representatives.
The applicants followed those rules to the letter. They didn't ask for any exemptions.
The article gave no indication that the Muslim applicants are troublemakers or anything other than law-abiding citizens. They've been in the area since the 1990s.
So the City Council unanimously approved the application. That is exactly what I expect a conservative to do: Follow the law as established. Or has the definition of "conservative" changed in such a manner that the laws only apply to white people who worship appropriately?
On what basis would you deny the application?

If the argument is that we should ban people from becoming Muslims, that's not gonna happen and our own Constitution protects the Muslims. If the argument is that a mosque is automatically going to be bad and 'anti-American', I'd say propaganda has entered the chat.
How about we judge people by their behavior? These specific people, I mean?

I've had many Muslim customers over the years. They have been some of the most respectful customers I've ever had. More than once I've been friends. I'm not going to trash folks that I disagree with religiously, but a find commonness with as people.
On average Muslim men have treated me more respectfully than the average native born American, Arlington does have a large Muslim population with multiple Mosques, I do not see that they have had a negative effect on the community.
