Just trying to figure out how low some of the riff raff on here will go. If given a choice between an open racist who tried to take advantage of the widow of a dead hero and a centrist Democrat, the "R" next to the candidate still wins out.

Texas Republicans condemn GOP candidate who noticed the Longhorns look a bit different these days

https://notthebee.com/article/texas-republicans-condemn-gop-candidate-who-noticed-the-longhorns-look-a-bit-different-these-days

Naturally the Dems jump at any opportunity to accuse Republicans of racism. It's a broken record for them. It's not racist to notice something is different or that immigration is flawed with far too many people coming from cultures alien to ours with people who don't assimilate.

Granted, the photo shows a group of Texas students who appear to have assimilated into the culture of UT. I'm not sure that's a good thing and it's certainly not an indication that they gave assimilated into American culture in general (or even Texan culture). Austin & UT do not represent Texas or America.

The fact that Cornyn is jumping in the bandwagon kind of negates the point. RINOs gonna RINO.

The only problem is these conversations should have been happening 20 years ago when companies were importing h1-bs to steal American jobs bcs they could pay them less.

Grinding through STEM is hard enough (and not enough American kids are doing it) without some business grad ****** stabbing you in the back and replacing you w/ foreigners so the "charts go up"

Indians dont play like that. They are right up there w/ jews as the most nepotistic, self-selecting, tribalistic ethnic group in this country.

Those numbers don't jive. I know that the Austin campus has 60K plus students. That's about 70K. (I hate rigged stats.) the UT system has significantly more students.

Texas, as a state, is majority Hispanic. So, any argument that doesn't recognize Hispanics in the UT system is not serving the states citizens.

I looked up the number in Austin.

56% minority.

16,951 White
12.076 Asian
13740 Hispanic
2.404 Black
65 Native
The rest as other.

4% international.

State demo

40% Hispanic
39% white
12% Black
5% Asian
1%< Native

( There are others mixed race etc. that I didn't note for you math nerds)

If you argue against UT spots going to actual foreigners who are not going to stay in America, fine, I probably agree with you. State resources should not go to something that will not benefit the state.

But most of you are arguing that Americans should not be at UT because of their ethnicity, regardless of their intellectual merit.

God is ashamed of you. Your argument is racist and sickening. Period, end of story.

As I understand it, the issue is foreigners coming to America on student & other visas and given preferential treatment in school admissions, job applications, etc.

As for American citizens applying for university admission, they should be treated as equal with no consideration for ethnicity. To favor one ethnicity over another is illegal discrimination and unconstitutional regardless of who it is. This includes affirmative action & DEI.

You misunderstand it. French and others on this thread are complaining of Indian/Asian representation at UT regardless of and with no knowledge of the citizenship status of the students. French has previously commented that we need to deport 100 million people (link below), because he is the KKK without the hood.

This guy is an out-and-out racist who does not try to hide it. He is running for the railroad commission, not because he has any expertise in the field the commission regulates, but because it is a statewide platform to spew his nonsense. His Democratic opponent, on the other hand, is well qualified and a moderate. Link below.

My point is that anyone who votes for French with knowledge of what he is about is condoning racism.

It's possible …but that does not necessarily mean he is

I mean the phrase "heritage Texan" could and must in fact include Tejanos & Africans who also have 200 year old roots here with the Anglos.

(And the phrase would not include recent Europeans, Central Americans, and Africans who just immigrated)

Noticing and criticizing racial admissions policies at UT is not racist. T to get is unconstitutional and has been an ongoing issue at UT. They have lost Supreme Court cases with their illegal policies (i.e. Hopwood) and, like Leftists elsewhere repeatedly double down with clearly racist actions.

The only people in modern politics who are "KKK without the hood" are Dems. They are the ones who are blatantly & institutionally racist, they are the anti-Semite's, they even include some Nazis (senate candidate in Maine & local candidate in NC stand out), and they are the ones who promote and engage in violence.

I cannot think of any prominent Dem figure who was a victim of political assassination or an attempt since JFK in 1963 (& he was assassinated by a commie!). Meanwhile, in the past few years a LWNJ shot up Republicans at a baseball game, another murdered Charlie Kirk, several tried to assassinate Trump, and those are only among the most recent. Plus, it's LWNJ's responsible for most if not all mass shootings this century, including multiple trans shooters. It's even the Dems who are most willing to cozy up to the Islamofascist terrorists, who claim the US deserved 9-11, who allied with terrorists against Israel after October 7, and so on.

Only one party resembles the historic KKK in any way and it's the same party that supported slavery, created Jim Crow, and created the KKK. The Dems have not changed as much over the past 160 years as people think.

There are many more examples but I don't want to try to cite them all.

What a racist trope. First, you have no idea whether those specific kids are from India, Asia, or Lorena. Second, the more general idea that we are being swamped by Asians or Muslims has zero statistical support. While Asians are Texas's fastest-growing demographic, they comprise about 6% of the state's population, growing at an annual rate of 5-6% compared with an overall growth rate of about 1.5%. In other words, they constitute a small percentage of the population and will remain a minority. Third, America has always been about immigration. The same complaints you are making now were leveled against the Irish, the Italians, Eastern Europeans, and previous generations of Asians.

What really upsets you is not that they won't "assimilate," because they do assimilate. Going crazy at a college football game proves that point.

You and French are upset that so many of them are in the picture because they earned their way into a selective public school. If America is one thing, it is supposed to be a meritocracy.

"This is racism, plain and simple," wrote state Rep. Drew Darby, R-San Angelo, who holds great sway in the Texas Legislature as chair of the House Energy Resources Committee. "I have served on the Energy Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over the Railroad Commission, for most of my tenure in the Texas House, and I have never seen conduct so unbecoming of a Railroad Commissioner or candidate in that time."

"The right thing to do is immediately delete this and issue an apology."

The Railroad Commission is a three-member body that regulates the state's oil and gas industry.
But French, who has scarcely debated the issues the Railroad Commission regulates since launching his campaign last November, vigorously defended his remarks. He said UT-Austin and other institutions have prioritized foreign students and workers, which, without evidence, said has resulted in fraud.

Drew Darby is about as conservative as you can be. Abbott said in private that French could wreck the industry. Dan Patrick called on the French ot resign a GOP position for previous racist tweets. It's not just liberals and RINOS, it is virtually anyone who knows the guy that recognizes him for what he is--a racist, unqualifed scum bag.

Of course, that is why lots of people in this forum like him.

I grant the that the group photo was only a small part of the student section. I watched a video clip and it was clear there were others nearby. But French used this to point to a bigger and very real problem: universities snd their racist admissions policies that harm Americans. I have no problem with students earning a slot, regardless of ethnicity. I do have a problem with racial discrimination no matter who is favored or harmed. The irony is that in universities, it is often Asians that are discriminated against along with whites and in favor of blacks. That has been an issue for many years. Harvard recently lost a Supreme Court case over it.

The Great Replacement is real and Americans of all backgrounds have legitimate concerns. We don't want the Dem crime wave of murders, raped, and thefts across the country. We don't support the invasion of illegals responsible for much of the violence along with fraud and helping the Dems steal elections. We don't want the illegals who don't speak English getting illegal CDL's and then driving semis on our highways putting us all at risk. They have killed too many Americans already (including multiple from India).

These problems are worse in Europe and Americans don't want that.

I don't know about UT Austin, but I worked down the street from UT Arlington and had an in on writing auto insurance for a bunch of Indian students. They all were very nice #1, but most of the guys planned on heading back home when they graduated. The students at UT looked like they were rabid fans and if they weren't 2nd generation sure have adopted to the UT culture quickly. I don't see how I could have a problem with them at all.
