Reluctant Trump supporter here. Voted Cruz is the primary and 3rd party in 2016. Currently pulling the lever for Trump in 2020 due to the insanity of the Democrats.

But I honestly hate who I am forced to support. The guy has proven to be a moron and a terrible executive.

His staff has turned over multiple times. Most times he has publicly demonized the "best people" that he previously hired.

His trade war has resulted in negative market results since its start in Jan 2018 (23 months). Negative returns in a healthy economy.

He consistently gives the fake news media ammo to use against him. Why bring Biden up in that phone call? Even if it was innocent, you should be aware that it will be used against you.

The anti-Trump vitriol is having lasting consequences in Texas. Several Republican Congressmen lost in 2018. Several more (including my own) are retiring in 2020 due to seeing the writing on the wall. Democrats will likely win these districts.

Very little of a Republican agenda has been achieved in the past 3 years. Tax reform and judges. That is it. No serious immigration legislation. Obamacare still kicking and healthcare prices continue to rise. Republicans have lost all political capital under Trump.

The debt is more out of control than ever before. Trump has consistently raised the deficit. Should be $1 trillion + in 2020.

I just can't believe he is the best we can do. Trump is going to have lasting negative effects on the conservative platform. Democratic lunacy and socialism will finish off the country so they will never receive my vote. But it is sad that I'm stuck in the Trump camp. We can and should do better.

Problem is none of the best people for the job have crystal clean, absolutely pure lives that can withstand microscopic national scrutiny.....all the way back to junior high .

So they decide not to set themselves or their families up for the abuse . A rational choice.

I truly believe Trump is delusional. He's surrounded himself by yes-men for decades and I think his mind is going. His rambling, barely coherent speeches are proof.

I don't like him and I want him out of office.

But ... my real anger is at the educated, coherent people who enable him, both by voting for him and working for him, including Senate Republicans.

Not sure how long that's going to last, since this scandal reflects the fact that most compentent conservatives won't work for him, because he expects loyalty to him instead of the nation, up to and including committing crimes and taking the fall. And he constantly badmouths his cabinet members and aides.

So most of the people most capable of enabling him have quit or been fired.

Vote for someone who is capable of doing the job. That's a minimum.

Trump never was, and most of the adults in the room my Republcian friends promised me would make sure things didn't go completely off the rails are gone.

Didn't realize your friends included cabinet level appointees or major Republican power brokers .

Most of the people seriously in the running as Democrats fit into neither of these categories.

And, if we do elect a loon, I'd rather he be Andrew Yang than Trump. Yang actually cares about people who don't share his genes or his bed.

I'm not running for president.

And I'm a lot less fanatical than you, people who call the Democrats "the Democrat party" (a RWNJ dog whistle) and say they're socialists, and people who think the government should intervene in a woman's control over her own body the instant an egg is fertilized.

Trump is good at one thing that you and other right-wingers have picked up: Accusing his enemies of doing what he's actually doing.

Gonna have to disagree with you there.

Warren/Bernie are full on loons. Their policies are the definition of pandering for votes and will negatively impact the country in severe ways.

Booker/Harris/Castro are narcissistic idiots that hate vast portions of the country.

Beto is the definition of an empty suit. His policies change day to day. He has no guiding principles.

Biden is legitimately too old and Dems won't pick him regardless. Yang and the rest will never get enough traction to make a meaningful push.

Gladly. Is that going to move the needle? I voted for Evan McMullin last time. I got my family to as well. He got 30 votes in my district.

all valid points.

like many - left and right - old and young - have said now 1000s of times - all the Dems need(ed) to do was nominate someone moderate and sensible. No major baggage. And they win.

No idea who that person is. Michelle Obama???

MO paired w a moderate white male Senator or Governor with some fx policy chops and a running / representing a moderate state would be near unbeatable.

BUT I really dont think she would go for that.

edit2: not that I would want such a ticket - just opining on whom I think would win - and possibly very easily.

A unity ticket. In cheech and chong parlance, people are 'sick up and fed'. The TDS has ruined the sensibilities of the Democrat party leadership. The Schiff parody yesterday was almost surreal - and he didn't even pause to think about what he was doing. That's when you know things are just haywire. The daily Scarface rantings etc.

NO - the press has done that and continues to do that even before and obviously after Trump leaves no matter who the GOP nominee is. Trump has literally done nothing to exploit & race outside of enforcing laws that are already on the books. Quit lying... Plus he's done more for minorities than Obama ever dreamed of doing and there is a long list that has been posted on this site several times that I know you've read and continue to ignore - so again QUIT LYING.

Remember Bush & Katrina - they took a picture of Bush looking down at New Orleans and turned him into the KKK leader who hated every minority in New Orleans. This isn't new, same song different GOP President.

I'm not going to sit and defend Trump. But Democrats have been stroking racial flames since Obama. When I grew up in the late 1990s, race wasn't a thing. Even into high school, race wasn't discussed or thought of. We regressed horribly as a country during his presidency. We have all Democratic candidates constantly bashing the "white patriarchy" and putting slavery reparations in their official platforms. As if that is going to "unify" the races.

Trump is a symptom of a larger political problem here.

You have other choices. Three in the primary.

Once again, will they even more the needle? I'm convinced that barring an armed conflict, we will never have a credible 3rd party in the US.

In effect, you are selling Larry, Moe, and Curly.

It's Trump or Disaster. Sadly, some will still choose disaster.

Despite cinque's "support" of Weld, if he became the Republican nominee, or if he somehow won the presidency, he would become the next most racist president ever. It's so predictable and exhausting.

That's a requirement for your values?

Me? I'd never vote for Trump. Period. So if you put Trump on one side and Trump on the other side, I won't be voting for Trump.

But I'm voting. Too many people have put it all on the line so that o can.

It's your vote. I'm not trying to influence you one way or the other.

Not selling anything. There's no difference between voting for a guy because you like his policies, you hate his opposition or you love his blue eyes.

There is a difference between having choices and saying you have no choice. In many states, you can even influence who the opposition is. Unless you want to vote on party lines. Isn't that really what this is about?

Imo, the original post is spot on...well said.

At the debates, Biden has spoken out against open borders, has said you still have to enforce laws against people entering our country illegally, and has been adamant about not supporting Warren or Sanders' health plan ideas. So maybe he won't choose a nut job as his running mate. Yes he is old and a Democrat. But Trump is senile and out of control. What a choice we have....

Are you 100% incapable of having an educated conversation about politics?

The OP presented a thoughtful, fact-laden post about the current presidency and its administration's political shortcomings.

Most of the people seriously in the running as Democrats fit into neither of these categories.

And, if we do elect a loon, I'd rather he be Andrew Yang than Trump. Yang actually cares about people who don't share his genes or his bed.

So would you consider Tulsi Gabbard for President? If not, why? Just asking for a friend. I look forward to your most sincere and transparent response.
Still can't figure why the democrats didn't want to keep a politically sane, non- borderline senile person in the running. She was solid.

Tulsi Gabbard wants Donald Trump to win the 2020 election more than herself or any of the other Dems, that's why Trump voters think she's more "sane" than the other Dem candidates. Her whole job is to be a spoiler and try to hurt whatever Dem she can, kind of like Bernie in 2016.

You can't have "educated" conversation about politics with people that believe today's media

Sorry but true
