It feels good to care, to be in a noble fight against something evil. So if there isn't much evil out there, one must redefine the innocuous to represent something sinister, in order to justify a continued crusade against evil.

I always take comfort in the fact that while Cancel Culture is concerning, at least it demonstrates that's about what makes up so-called "systematic" racism. We have to though tantrums about 20-year-old movies because actual racism is almost impossible to find.

And racist language and attitudes pervade the film. But those attitudes are espoused by characters who are portrayed here as explicitly small-minded, ignorant bigots. The real, and much more enlightened perspective, is provided by the main characters played by Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder."

Stewart also shares some behind the scenes tidbits about the film, such as Richard Pryor was under consideration for the lead role, but Warner Bros. refused due to his substance abuse issues and controversial stand-up routines. However, he is still a credited screenwriter.
