Do you think Biden can increase the deficit even faster than Trump? I'm curious. It will sure take more than this one spending bill.

Trump tacked on about $8 Trillion in 4 years.

Biden wants to pile on $3.5 Trillion after 10 months in office?

Both parties are run by drunken sailors.

If Biden commits to this being the main spending bill of these 4 years, and raises taxes back to historical norms, there is little doubt that he will not add more than 8bn per 4 years, a staggering number imo. It says much of Republicans that Trump did so, while they rallied behind his tax cuts, and reluctantly supported his pandemic relief. All the while, proving that Republicans are not conservatives any longer, but power hungry maniacs with no ties to their old principles. Crying wolf when the Democrats do anything, eager to do the same things when they are in power. Both parties mere shells of what they could be.

The people are too inundated with fake news, biased entertainment TV, 24/7 coverage of the few injustices in this country that support any given narrative, to see clearly what is happening to the country.

Actually what do you consider historical norms ?

Pre Bush cuts. Economy was incredibly strong, government was running a small surplus. Difficult to argue taxes should be lower, given the deficit, but I'm aware nobody wants to pay taxes.

The top bracket, which is currently 37%, did not exist I believe, so the current tax bracket at 35% was 39.6%. That would put earners of $523k or more at around 42%.

I would also support adding new tax brackets of 1m, 3m, 6m, 10m, 20m, with slight increases up to a max of 45%, continuing to have a relatively low capital gains tax, and more, but that's a different thread.

Were taxes unbearable during the Clinton administration? Honestly the Clinton admin, it's taxes, the budgets, seem like a dream now. Too good to be true.

And even idiot politicians will one day have to reckon with the deficit. I'd rather slow down its increases as much as possible, than ignore it, cut taxes further, spend more. Not that I really have much say, but it's my duty to advocate for future generations who aren't here yet to speak up.

I think history proved that those tax rates provided enough money for the government to do its job, and did not hamper the economy. I'm willing to pay what the IRS says to pay.

And if you will read, I'm advocating for pre Bush tax rates, slightly higher income taxes on millionaires, and sticking with the 0, 10, 15, 20% capital gains tax rate.

That doesn't come close to paying for our yearly budget, so I've thought of other ways to increase rvenue, for example a treasury backed banking product guaranteed to outpace inflation, a type of savings account. Giving especially low income families a way to save without investing, and not essentially be taxed more and more every year by inflation.

There are other ways we could increase revenue without higher taxes, but that's another thread.

Here's a novel, how about the gov't cut spending?

The fairest of all taxes would be dumping income taxes in favor of a consumption tax. But of course, with the gov't, it's never about being fair.

B. You constantly insist that others pay more.....yet never disclose what YOU are willing to pay.

You are attempting to slide around two obvious points.......

A. Without pre Bush tax write offs you are advocating a net of more taxes.
B. You constantly insist that others pay more.....yet never disclose what YOU are willing to pay.

More than a little hypocritical .

Why does it matter what I'm willing to pay? I can assure you, I'm not rich, but I do pay my taxes. If ever I'm rich, I'm willing to pay the pre Bush rates, or the 45% if I make 50m a year (lol).

Trump tacked on about $8 Trillion in 4 years.

Biden wants to pile on $3.5 Trillion after 10 months in office?

Both parties are run by drunken sailors.

If Biden commits to this being the main spending bill of these 4 years, and raises taxes back to historical norms,
Actually what do you consider historical norms ?

Pre Bush cuts.
If you want pre Bush tax rates back ...then also give back pre Bush tax write offs .

That's not how math works. We owe a lot of money. Giving everyone ways to not pay taxes shouldn't be anyone's priority.
Then you are not advocating the realities of the pre Bush tax rates.

You just want other people to pay more....much more.

Of course I haven't read how much you are willing to pay .

If we were paying 10% or 90%, the government will ALWAYS spend more than it takes in by a certain percentage. It will be red into the trillions.

The idea that higher taxes translates to better budgeting is bull*****

So why not let the people keep more of their own money? Why would it be better in the hands of the people about to run out of social security funding in a decade?

I could take half of my social security taxes, invest them and have tenfold what the feds will give me.
