Putin knows he is facing a strawman.

His military chiefs know it.....our Joint Chiefs of Staff know it.........hell even Biden knows it .

Putin wins this round .

The Dnieper river is the natural western security border of the Russian state.....regardless of if we like this or not every Russian government from Tsar to Soviet to Putinist over the past 400 years has pursued this as a national security policy.

NATO has been a useless shell of a military alliance for at least 25 years.

This will demonstrate such and after the Afghanistan debacle will show that NATO is a useless, unreliable political organization.

Ukraine isn't in NATO, so we don't have treaty obligations to defend Ukraine.

Would you go nuclear to defend Ukraine?
No.

Would not risk a single US serviceman for any country in Europe.

World War 2 has been over for almost 75 years.

It is ridiculous that the United States is STILL paying for European defense . Especially when they rarely if ever pay their own needed defense budgets .
stunner that a Trump lover is saying this.

why are the Trumpers saying Joe is too weak, when we all know Trump as President for sure wouldn't be opposing Russian aggression in this area. That's probably the right answer, too.

Ridiculous comments .

First you mock the opinion ( and BTW am not a 'Trump lover' ) .........then make a huge assumption what Trump would do.......and lastly admit it is 'probably the right answer'.

My gosh the liberal oligarchy is going to get us into a shooting war with a nuclear armed Russia over the frozen wastelands of eastern Ukraine...lands that are populated with (checks notes) ethnic Russians.

Ukraine PM calls for NATO's help against Russia

Quote:

With a major mobilization of Russian troops once again menacing Ukraine, and U.S. intelligence warning of a potential invasion, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Thursday urged NATO to send warships to the Black Sea and step up reconnaissance flights along Russia's borders.
"Ensuring the constant presence of maritime warships of the NATO alliance in the Black Sea would be a very strong signal," Shmyhal said in an interview with POLITICO by videoconference from his office in Kyiv.

"In the same way, a very strong signal would be the increase of intelligence and reconnaissance flights across the Russian border, in particular in the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea," he said.

Shmyhal's request echoed proposals put forward by Polish President Andrzej Duda during a meeting with Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Thursday. Duda also called for an increased deployment of allied troops in Poland and the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

So by the same logic Mexico has a right to reconquer the Southwestern states of the US? Liberal oligarchy (whatever that's supposed to mean) bad, Russian oligarchy good?

Certainly true that Russia is an oligarchy.

But America has no more of a national security interest in getting mixed up in a Russia vs Ukraine war...than Russia would have in getting mixed up in an America vs Mexico war.

At some point we have to stop getting mixed up in conflicts on the other side of the globe ...it didn't work out well in Iraq of Afghanistan.

What makes you think it will work out better in eastern Ukraine?

Except this time we would not be fighting Pashtun tribesmen but a nuclear armed modern nation state.

This would be correct. We pay for their defense and they use their money to provide for their citizens.
