I was a freshman at Baylor in the Fall of 1963. I was fortunate to watch the Trull to Elkins connection time and again. Prostyle offense was Coach John Bridgers mantra and he had the top offensive duo in collegiate football in those two. There was a well known, likely apocryphal, story told about Bridgers at the time that illustrated his offensive philosophy: a young QB asked the coach "when do we throw the ball, coach?" and Bridgers' reply was: "only on the first four downs, son."
Trull to Elkins was a lock, most of the time and they were both All-Americans in 63. They will always be Hall of Famers to me.
