1. Seth Russell is back...
And looking like he didn't miss any time from the neck injury suffered against Iowa State. The Senior quarterback even stuck his head in on a run and took the hit and wanted more.

2. Zach Smith is legit.
I told any and all who would listen he had an incredible arm. Tonight he showed it while remaining poised behind the first team offensive line before leaving the game after four series and his first career touchdown pass.

3. Hello there Ira Lewis.

You can tell everybody on the D-Line is hungry to prove themselves. Having a good motor and being energetic is half the battle on the D-line, and if you watch last years film Oakman just didn't have that last year.

The backers looked great, but I'll hold off on crowning just yet. It was simply too easy for them last night, thanks to the D-Line. But I like the flashes I saw from Johnston and Williams.

Fantastic start in the opener. The energy from the players was tremendous-- that was my main take away as this was a "Preseason" type of game. However, anyone remember the Lamar game last season....a BU team that had 8/9 def. starters returning....it was 35-21 at half time and we played listless defense. Now I believe that Lamar team was better than this Nwstate team, but I like when guys feel like they have something to prove...i.e. young guys or first time starters trying to make a name for themselves.... I hope this continues.. Great Start.

Great thoughts and definitely agree about Nicholson. I would add thoughts of 10 +1 to include our kicking game. How long have we waited for someone to kick the freaking ball into the end zone. Not to mention our coverage on special teams was also great.

I was really impressed with Ira Lewis.

But I was somewhat confused why Zac didn't get a couple of more series. He's going to need those reps next year.

My only thought on this was to give the number 3 and 4 some game time in a safe environment. As we all saw last year, you never know when you will be trying to find someone....anyone, to be a the QB.
