No. 8 Baylor (9-2) will host Texas Tech (6-5) at McLane Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the final regular season for the Bears in 2021.

Quote of the week...

Dave Aranda: “Defensively, we're just gonna be careful just with our signals. But outside of that it’s the opponent that's right in front of us. It's the things that we put on tape. Offensively, Tech has shown that they're interested in opponent film, and if there's weaknesses, they attack it, and if there's things that have hurt you in the past, they notice it. That's a big part going into this game. I think continuing to block out the noise and keep the outside on the outside and focus on developing the inside and controlling the stuff you can control. That's a further test with all that this week. Our ability to take the next step as the defense is doing that consistently. Right? It’s not relying on externals and so I see that as really being the focus.”

Craig Smoak’s Players to Watch

Texas Tech — Wide Receiver Erik Ezukanma

Without a doubt, Tech's biggest star and playmaker, especially on offense. Although his team-leading 691 yards and 4 touchdowns receiving aren't eye-popping stats, you have to consider he's played with three different starting quarterbacks and two different head coaches this season. The junior from Fort Worth also has nine carries for 114 yards and two scores over Tech's last six contests.

Baylor — Quarterback Blake Shapen

I think we're all anticipating Shapen being the starter on Saturday, and if that's the case, he got one heck of a warmup run last week against Kansas State. He shouldn't need to be Superman with the talent around him and the defense he's facing, which ranks middle or towards the bottom in most Big 12 categories. I think we'll see a confident quarterback ready to take advantage of an ample opportunity on Saturday. Protect the football, be your 1/11th, and let the rest take care of itself.

We're beat up. Spent. Injured. Tech is not chopped liver.

Great season. Great effort.

Folks….enjoy the win. All 10 of them.

Sorry, but going for it and not kicking the field goal was a bad decision

I think I finally get Jorkels humor. Hilarious.

Also, I don't care about CFP anymore. We will get pounded. So just looking for to see if we can get a shot at the Big12. What a season. We won all of our games at home including beating OU, UT and Tech. Awesome season

As an alumnus who personally witnessed the 30-22 disaster to San Jose State University, you can bet your sweet rear end that I will take this narrow 3-point win over Texas Tech! ITZA WIN, FOLKS!!

Yep. Credit to the team and coaches for getting to
10-2. Amazing season

Could have been one for all time but still shocked. I expected a bowl. Didn't expect our OL to be as good as it was and Abram to be one of the all time greats. And GB to be better than I expected.

Defending Grimes again for not kicking that FG and forcing a TD when they have a guy that can kick 65 yard FGs is beyond belief.

BUT, just win baby and all is forgiven just hope they get smarter

No. If UGA wins out, that's two two loss teams.

Briles may have to take second place to CDA in going for it on fourth down. If Shapen could have gotten the pass over the guy, it is an easy first down if not more. But with about a minute and no timeouts I think I would have kicked the FG and made Tech make a 75 yard TD drive to beat us.

But that is in the past. We won, and that is all that counts.

I think he has had plenty of cold ones..probably why he isn't married anymore. Too much sauce makes him aggressive, abusive, and beat his ex wife.

Wonder were the CFP puts us with a close win to a mediocre Tech team

This is the correct answer. Today's win was a white-knuckler, but any win this time of year is beautiful.

What a season this has been.

Who cares? We're not going to make the playoff. The significance of this win is it gives us a chance at a Big 12 title. Hopefully Oklahoma State will cooperate tonight.

Ask Nebraska - they would kill for an ugly win.

No, the HC makes that call. I would say Aranda made the FG or go for it call. Grimes made the play call itself.

Excellent win and a completely surprising season (who would have thought we could have had another '19 type season?). I will say, there were some textbook terrible coaching decisions at the end of the game (not kicking the FG & the timeout while Tech was about to have a delay of game). God willing, OU goes down and if that happens…we have a lot to clean up bc OSU is playing their best ball right now.

Did everything we could to give that away. If it's close against OSU:
1) Take the FG
2) Let them get a penalty instead of burning a TO

This is what happens with a second-year coach. He'll remember these decisions down the road.

Good season Bears. Hope we get to play next weekend. If not it has still been a great season with an amazing turnaround from last year. Shapen was poised for these last 2 games. Tough guy to get up from that hard hit on 3rd down.

I immediately said go for it. Either way you can lose on a touchdown. Can't lose on a fg if you don't make it either. Plus the field position with no timeouts. Assuming Baylor kicks it out of the end zone, that's a 13 yd differential on staring position. So start from 12 to kick a fg to tie or start from 25 to score td to win. I like the decision.

I liked the decision. Football karma would have had us losing by 1 after they scored a td. We didn't play the victim role.

No issue with going for it. Gotta play aggressive and be proactive. Play call was a bit interesting.

Same with 75 yard Tech TD. Live by the blitz, get burned by the blitz. You don't run an attacking D if you are risk adverse. I would say Aranda is comfortable with level of risk on both sides of ball.

Yep glad we went for it. First down and the game is over. At some point you have to trust your players to win the play. This staff is aggressive. All that passive/conservative stuff is what gets you beat. They make the field goal and we still have overtime

10 wins. Hell of a job this year. Just hoping the Cowboys get it done so I can drag the family to Dallas

Plus, the win keeps alive a chance to finish the season in the Top 10 regardless of what happens tonight. Would be only the second time we've done that since the 70s.

That was my thinking too. The play that was called damn near would have worked too. Credit to Schooler disrupting it.

Shapen will learn a lot from this game. This is the pass you can float to Smith and he easily picks up the first down if not more. The pass to Thorton needs a little more zip on it and we have 7 instead of 3 on that possession.

Thank God that DL didn't intercept it and run it back...

Just knowing the potential of their FG kicker, and our inability to run the ball, getting to 6 and forcing thenTD to win with how our D played most of the 2nd half with their inexperienced qb was likely the lower risk outcome.

All hindsight now and a W a W

At least we're not ******* and willing to roll the dice but we seem to Put it all on the line a lot when not entirely necessary.
