SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Baylor men’s basketball freshman forward Kendall Brown has been selected as one of the top 10 candidates for the 2022 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award, as announced Wednesday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Brown is one of two players on the Baylor roster to start all 22 games to begin the 2022 season, and he is one of four Bears averaging double figures in scoring (10.0/game). With an effective field goal percentage of 66.7%, he ranks 15th nationally and second nationally among freshmen.

The preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year is the only conference representative on the list. Brown is joined by Davidson’s Hyunjung Lee, Duke’s Wendell Moore, Loyola-Chicago’s Lucas Williamson, Michigan’s Caleb Houstan, Rutgers’ Ron Harper Jr., St. Johns’ Julian Champagnie, Stanford’s Harrison Ingram, UCLA’s Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Villanova’s Jermaine Samuels.

Named after Class of 1993 Hall of Famer and 16-year professional basketball player Julius Erving, the annual honor in its eighth year recognizes the top small forwards in Division I men’s college basketball.

A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in November, which has now been narrowed to 10. In late February, the watch list of 10 players will be narrowed to five. In March, those finalists will be presented to Mr. Erving and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, where a winner will be selected.
