WACO, Texas – Baylor softball run-ruled Lamar, 8-0, Wednesday night at Getterman Stadium to put the Bears back in the win column.

Starting pitcher Dariana Orme struck out the first six batters of the game and finished with eight total strikeouts, tying a career-high she set earlier this season against then-No. 6 UCLA.

The Bears got a runner on in the first when Emily Hott drew a walk, but no runs came across in the inning for the Bears.

Campbell Selman, who was 3-for-3 at the plate, got the scoring started with a double in the bottom of the second that scored Sydney Collazos after a leadoff walk.

Baylor scored at least one run in the last four innings of the game, with McKenzie Wilson leading off the third with a walk, going to third on a single by Ana Watson and scoring on a double steal. After Josie Bower walked and stole second, Watson came across on a fielder’s choice by Collazos and a Cardinals error.

Doubles by Selman and Watson brought in another run, then Bower hit a two-run blast to right-center field for her second home run of the season.

After some defensive changes for Baylor in the fifth, Caroline Rowatt led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to second base, followed by Katie Ellington reaching on an error. With two on and no outs, Selman singled to left field to load the bases, followed by a walk-off single through the left side by Rhein Tochim to end the game by softball’s eight-run rule.

The win snapped Baylor’s seven-game losing streak and will hopefully get some momentum going as the Bears head to Lawrence for their third Big 12 series. The Jayhawks are 1-5 in conference play after being swept by Texas and losing two of three to Texas Tech.

TOP QUOTES

Glenn Moore on the game…

“We needed to get back on the right track and couldn’t take anyone for granted, number one,

and Dari is our leader. We wanted to give her a good bullpen working. She got about 60 pitches,

and that’s about where we wanted her and have enough offensive cushion to give her a bullpen

and we did, and we continued to score. And it all worked out the way it was designed and the

way we hoped it would.”
