The Baylor coaching staff is placing a high priority on signing size and speed in their 2018 recruiting class. With wide receiver pledge Kalon Barnes of Silsbee they can definitely check off the speed box after his latest performance at the Texas UIL 4A State Championships in Austin over the weekend.

Taking part in his sixth track meet since winning a state championship in basketball in March, Barnes posted personal records in both the 100 meters and 200 meters on Saturday, winning the state crown in both.

Barnes did not lose an individual race the entire 2017 track season.

The most eye-popping number for Barnes came in the 100 meters where he ran the No. 1 time for all classifications with a 10.22-second finish. The time for Barnes is noted as No. 4 in all of the U.S. for high school prospects in 2017 according to Athletic.net.

The time for Barnes also set the Class 4A State Record.

With Barnes as the anchor leg, Silsbee also finished second in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.41.
