28 Days till Kickoff: Baylor’s #28 Devyn Bobby
As always, keep track of both the stats and roster countdowns in the Offseason Hub!
Devyn Bobby is a true-freshman safety from Desoto, Texas. He will have three or four years of eligibility remaining, depending on if he redshirts this season. Baylor’s website has him listed at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds.
Our own Travis Roeder thinks Bobby is a “very fluid athlete… and an ideal cover safety who can flip his hips and run.” Travis says he’ll be competing with Devin Lemear to be the starting field safety in 2022, but that “he can immediately play special teams, will probably rotate with Lemear some early on and could be the de-facto starter against some teams.”
As a junior at Desoto High School, Bobby helped anchor a defense on a team that went 11-3 and saw a trip to the regional finals. In 2020, he tallied 77 tackles, four interceptions, four TFLs, and two fumble recoveries. Bobby was named to First Team All-District in both 2019 and 2020. ESPN rated Bobby as a four-star prospect, the No. 59 player in Texas, and the No. 29 safety nationally. He committed to Baylor over Kansas State, UTSA, and Louisiana in the 2022 class.
