Ten Things That Stood Out Against No. 21 BYU

Game number two is in the books and the Bears are now 1-1 after a 20-26 loss on the road to BYU.

These are the top ten things that stood out to me during Baylor’s game against No. 21BYU:

1 ⇒ The atmosphere is electric and BYU is putting on a great show for their fans and Baylor.

2 ⇒ BYU is sharp early and Baylor looks to have an identity crisis or blocking assignment issue as BYU is getting through and pressuring Shapen.

3  Baylor offense needs to pound the rock and quit being cute with the rollout passes with only one receiver on the side if fe field.

⇒Baylor has decided to put the onus on the offensive line and running backs to take over offensively and it works. Pound the rock.

⇒Defense needs to mature in the backfield and this game will pay dividends in the long run. The corners cannot continue to let receivers get a free release and behind them.

⇒Offense needed that drive to start the second half and much of what was expected in the first half. Shapen making the easy throws and running backs hitting their reads.

⇒BYU pulling out all the tricks on offense and Baylor needs to recover the momentum from the first drive. Now BYU pulls out the fire twirlers between quarters. Welcome to Provo!

⇒Baylor must have liked the fire twirling as they come out on fire with a great drive to tie it up. Shapen looks sharp and the running game is getting chunks.

⇒Crucial error on BYU with a false start on the 4th and 2 attempt. Baylor has 5:45 to drive the field for the win from the 20. A missed block by a WR stalls the drive.

10 ⇒Hard fought game with too many penalties on Baylor.

Conclusion: Baylor needs to clean up the penalties on the road
