#5 Baylor (4-1) takes down #8 UCLA (3-2) in Las Vegas behind 28 points from LJ Cryer and 22 points and 4 assists from Adam Flagler.
Positives
- Overcame tough offensive nights from Jalen Bridges and Keyonte George to beat a good UCLA squad projected to win the Pac12.
- Adam Flagler (22 points, 6 reb, 4 asst), LJ Cryer (28 points), Dale Bonner (9 points), Caleb Lohner (9 points, 5 rebounds) and Flo Thamba (6 rebounds, 2 blocks) all made winning plays in crunch time. Good to perform well in a pressure situation.
- Josh Ojianwuna gave a great spark off the bench with his energy (7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block)
- 50% from 3 in the second half (7-14), 20-23 from the foul line (87%). That’s winning basketball.
- This was a well played game for this early in the season. You won’t see Bridges and George miss those many open shots again and we survived that.
Needs Improvement
- 11 turnovers is not terrible, but this is a team that should win the turnover battle against everyone we play. We were -3 in that area today.
- Defensively still have a ways to go to but I thought we played much better defense against UCLA than we did against Virginia overall. Need to stop biting on jump fakes and be more disciplined in that area.
