Ten Things That Stood Out Against Texas

November 25, 2022

Baylor traveled to Austin to face the Longhorns on Friday and Bear fans are hoping there isn’t a turkey triptofan hangover on the horizon. Here are at least ten things which stood out in the game.

  1. The amount of underthrown passes which should be touchdowns from Blake Shapen‍ has been concerning all season and it continues today.
  2. Ron Roberts dialing up a safety as Christian Morgan‍ came free and Ewers intentionally grounds the ball
  3. Have yourself a day Jaylen Ellis‍ on getting behind the secondary again, but this time Shapen sees it and hits him early and on time.
  4. And all the little things continue to happen. All the momentum and all the good is now gone. Execution is going to have assistants in the unemployment line.
  5. Prayers up to Cole Hutson‍ as the injury looks to be a bad one on replay. Good kid, hate to see it.
  6. You take the good, you take the bad, and then you have the great with the 2022 version of the Bears.
  7. Say hello Lorando Johnson, Jr.‍! SAY HELLO!
  8. Where has Issac Power‍ gone today? Two shanks is not like him at all.
  9. Alfahiym Walcott‍ just makes plays and Baylor will miss him, like they do Jalen Pitre‍
  10. Qualan Jones‍ running hard like everyone loves to see him do.
  11. And again, the maddening missed throws
  12. Offense is attacking Mark Milton‍ and he needs to make a play
  13. Qualan Jones‍ is having his best game of his career
  14. BIG MAN TOUCHDOWN!!!! Gabe Hall‍ on the scoop and score from Alfahiym Walcott‍’s strip of Ewers.
  15. Defensive line getting little push in the running game and linebackers not filling gaps to get off the field in the second half
  16. That final offensive play encapsolates the entire year. A free linebacker running free on a missed call. More lack of execution.
  17. On to whatever bowl Baylor will play in and put this season to memory with chances to win but execution lacking to push through.

19. Prior to Shapen's pick, he sacks himself. I have no words for talent such as that.

20. We will learn nothing from this season. Excuses will be made, and anyone who wants more than average will be called unreasonable.

You're right, fans won't learn anything. Coaches will.

Might just be me, but I have been harboring this thought all season: Shapen had NO INTs last year, but he did this year and it means he often throughs scared. He throws low (which is an apt strategy on occasion), but I think he does it a lot more this year because he fears getting intercepted. And he was intercepted a lot this year. Like 10 times, at least. I think he had more INTs than thrown TDs. Hope he gets over this for the bowl game.

However, there is going to be a major competition for QB next year. Given what we have already and the freshman phenom coming on board in 2023, Shapen WILL have serious competition. The Bears need there to be, in my humble opinion.

Not sure of which play you are talking about. There was one where he was escaping and fell at the line of scrimmage. On that play that I am describing one of our linemen moved his leg back and tripped Shapen as he was heading to the line of scrimmage. Is there another play to which you are referring?
