Dillon Doyle Named First-Team Academic All-America
FORT WORTH -- Baylor senior linebacker Dillon Doyle has been named a first-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Doyle, a native of Iowa City, Iowa, sports a 3.97 GPA as a graduate student working on his master’s in business administration.
Doyle is the 18th different player to earn Academic All-America honors from CSC – formerly the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) – in program history. It marks the 25th total Academic All-America award in Baylor annals. Doyle is the ninth first-team selection and the first Baylor standout to earn the first-team honor since 2015. A year ago, Jalen Pitre earned second-team All-America accolades. Doyle is the only player in the Big 12 Conference to earn first-team Academic All-America honors in 2022.
He ranked tied for the team lead with 80 tackles in 2022, adding two interceptions, three QB hurries and two pass break-ups. He also played fullback, in addition to his daily role as a middle linebacker. He earned second-team All-Big 12 honors at both positions, becoming the first player in league and program history to earn first or second team All-Big 12 accolades at an offensive and defensive position.
Doyle, who transferred to Baylor after playing the 2017-18 seasons at Iowa, owns 251 career tackles, including 11.5 for a loss, with three interceptions and two sacks.
Baylor (6-6) will wrap up the 2022 season on Thursday, facing Air Force (9-3) at 6:30 p.m. in Fort Worth at Amon G. Carter Stadium. The game will be televised live on ESPN and broadcast live on the Baylor Sports Network from Learfield.
