Baylor lands Liberty linebacker Mike Smith out of the transfer portal

Liberty linebacker transfer Mike Smith gave his commitment to transfer to Baylor on Tuesday afternoon following an official visit over the weekend.

He entered the transfer portal on Friday and immediately took his official visit to Baylor the same weekend. Smith was also being actively recruited by Texas A&M.

The 6-foot-1, 225 pound linebacker led Liberty with 85 tackles on the 2022 season as a junior. He also posted 10 tackles for loss and an interception.

Smith arrived at Liberty in the spring of 2022 after being signed out of Mississippi Gulf Coast CC. 

During his time at Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C., he was an All-MACCC South First Team member. He finished his three-year career with 248 tackles, 19 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

Smith projects to slide into the one of the insider linebacker positons on Baylor’s defense.

The Liberty guy was pursued by aggy. UCLA has been signing guys out of the MAC. Talent can be found in all kinds of places. Some players are late bloomers.

I'd be more worried about the Miami kid we took who hardly has any stats in 3 years on some bad Miami teams than two proven contributors on good group of 5 teams

I think it was the late 90s a big 5* guy committed to Tennessee and said he was committing to the university of UT. That's like Michael Scott- ASAP as possible
