LAREDO, Texas – Baylor men’s golf will open the spring season on Monday with a trip to Laredo to compete in the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club.

One of the longest-running tournaments in college golf, the Border Olympics will host the Bears for a third-straight season. In total, BU has nine victories in the event and finished fourth a season ago. Head coach Mike McGraw is looking forward to watching his guys try to build on a strong fall to open the spring slate.

“The fall was great,” he said. “We ended on a good note with a win in the Bear Brawl. It was at home, but we beat those teams pretty handily, which was really fun to do. You want to continue that momentum, because we have a really tough stretch coming up with Palm Springs and Cabo on the horizon. So it would be nice to get one good event under our belt and then continue that on throughout the season.”

Johnny Keefer will lead off at the No. 1 spot for a 17th-straight event. The senior finished the fall with his two best stroke-play finishes, a tie for 27th at the Trinity Forest Invitational and a tie for seventh at the Bear Brawl.

Drew Wrightson will play at No. 2 this week. The sophomore played in four of the five fall events, finishing as the only Bear with a winning record at the Big 12 Match Play and notching a tie for 13th at the Bear Brawl.

Trey Bosco takes his spot at No. 3 in the lineup, looking to open the spring season in similar fashion to his fall, when he won the Minnesota Golf Classic. In total, he recorded three top-20 finishes in his five starts in the fall.

Zach Heffernan will play at No. 4 this week. In his last start, he recorded his best-career finish, a tie for sixth at the Bear Brawl. The sophomore is making his second appearance in Laredo after a tie for 70th last season.

Tyler Isenhart will round out the lineup at No. 5. The senior finished in the top-13 in three of the four stroke-play events in the fall. The Chicago, Ill., native is making his third start at the Border Olympics, with his best finish coming last year when he tied for 43rd.
