Head coach Scott Drew and Baylor have landed their second transfer portal commitment of the cycle, this time in the form of rising senior forward Norchad Omier from Miami. Omier, a top transfer target, chose the Bears over a who’s who of offers.

The 6-foot-7, 240-pound bruising forward earned Second Team All-ACC honors in 2023-2024 as he led the Hurricanes in points (17.0), rebounds (10.0), steals (1.5) and blocks (0.8); he also shot 35.3% from deep and 75% from the free throw line.

According to KenPom, Omier was in the top 10% in college basketball in offensive efficiency (116), effective field goal percentage (58%), offensive rebounding percentage (13%), defensive rebounding percentage (23%), block percentage, steal percentage and free throw rate.

Norchad Omier joins Duke guard Jeremy Roach as the two transfers head coach Scott Drew had picked up via the portal.

Originally a native of Bluefields, Nicaragua, Omier spent the first two seasons of his college career at Arkansas State where he racked up 35 career double-doubles and earned the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year award in 2021-2022.

Ahead of the 2022-2023 season, Omier transferred to Miami and was a major contributor on the Hurricanes team that made a run to the Final Four. He started 36 games and averaged 13.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.

With forwards Yves Missi (Fr.) and Jalen Bridges (Sr.) heading to the NBA Draft, Omier will provide toughness, an ability to stretch the floor and a defensive presence down low while pairing with big-man Josh Ojianwuna (Jr.) to create a formidable frontcourt.

Omier is the No. 2 ranked transfer by On3, No. 3 ranked transfer by CBS Sports and No. 5 in the ESPN transfer rankings.

This is insane! Literally was thinking he was the best player in the portal and we landed him! Didn't even know we were pursuing him.

Special. We add one more and we pass Houston and are right there with KU. Dude is the best forward in the big 12 from day 1. Or very very close.

Huge news. I like Omier better than any of the bigs we've been tied to in this portal cycle. And he's versatile enough to play the four or the five, giving us some options for our last portal addition/rotation spot. We can basically take the best available player now, whether it's a big wing (a la Bridges), a power forward or a post.

BAP is the route I hope go. (Assuming it fills an actual need)
Greyson has said on a podcast recently there's mutual interest between BU and Wells (WAZZOU) and hes undoubtedly one of the better portal players left

Selfishly, I'm an Achor guy. I'd love to watch a team with two legit bigs on the floor at any given time. It's been a really long time since we've had that.

But Wells would be great if we went the big wing route.

I believe they go with a big but I agree. Omier is special. Can't name one current forward in the big 12 that's clearly better.

This guy seems like a Mark Vital type who can score. Drew is doing an incredible job putting the 2024-25 team together with senior leadership. He is going for the final four next year.
