Breaking: Baylor MBB Secures All-ACC Forward Norchad Omier from Miami in Transfer Portal
Head coach Scott Drew and Baylor have landed their second transfer portal commitment of the cycle, this time in the form of rising senior forward Norchad Omier from Miami. Omier, a top transfer target, chose the Bears over a who’s who of offers.
The 6-foot-7, 240-pound bruising forward earned Second Team All-ACC honors in 2023-2024 as he led the Hurricanes in points (17.0), rebounds (10.0), steals (1.5) and blocks (0.8); he also shot 35.3% from deep and 75% from the free throw line.
According to KenPom, Omier was in the top 10% in college basketball in offensive efficiency (116), effective field goal percentage (58%), offensive rebounding percentage (13%), defensive rebounding percentage (23%), block percentage, steal percentage and free throw rate.
Originally a native of Bluefields, Nicaragua, Omier spent the first two seasons of his college career at Arkansas State where he racked up 35 career double-doubles and earned the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year award in 2021-2022.
Ahead of the 2022-2023 season, Omier transferred to Miami and was a major contributor on the Hurricanes team that made a run to the Final Four. He started 36 games and averaged 13.1 points, 10.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.
With forwards Yves Missi (Fr.) and Jalen Bridges (Sr.) heading to the NBA Draft, Omier will provide toughness, an ability to stretch the floor and a defensive presence down low while pairing with big-man Josh Ojianwuna (Jr.) to create a formidable frontcourt.
Omier is the No. 2 ranked transfer by On3, No. 3 ranked transfer by CBS Sports and No. 5 in the ESPN transfer rankings.
