Baylor Wing Cameron Carr is 'The Biggest Winner' of the NBA Draft Combine
Baylor men’s basketball star forward Cameron Carr put on a show at the NBA Draft Combine this week and is beginning to fly up the draft boards. We talked about this a ton during the season and afterward, that Carr was going to ‘wow’ people at the NBA Combine with his freaky athleticism. In the offseason, everyone who got to see him raved about his athletic ability, which led us to think he would be the best player on the team, and that was spot on.
Carr was even better than expected, with the best athletic showing of anyone in the draft in a class that is one of the most loaded in recent memory. His elite vertical, combined with elite agility and the best guard wingspan in the class, is going to lead to him being drafted way sooner than many had him projected pre-combine. It was overall a fantastic day for him, but he wasn’t done.
Carr came back the next day and competed in a 5-on-5 scrimmage….he dominated. In 27 minutes, he finished with 30 points and seven rebounds. He finished 6-for-12 from three and 6-for-9 at the free throw line. It was an elite showing, allowing him to opt out of the remaining scrimmages. The scouts saw what they needed to see as his rise was truly cemented following this performance, and the media continued to give him major attention.
What the Media is Saying…
Jeremy Woo (ESPN): My highest ranked player to take the floor Wednesday, Carr had his full offensive skill set on display right away, making four 3s in the first quarter of his scrimmage, scoring 19 in the first half, and finishing with 30 points, making 6-of-12 from deep. After improving his comfort level on the ball and shooting 37% from beyond the arc this season, Carr reinforced his upside as a high-flying 2-guard who can score from long range and has the length to be a positive defender. Though he had some errant passes, the positive far outweighed the negative. I viewed Carr as a clear candidate to rise coming into the predraft process due to his plus-8¼-inch wingspan and a level of explosiveness that typically plays up well in team workouts. Wednesday was a step in that direction, bolstering his case as a projected top-20 selection who could get looks in the late lottery.
J. Kyle Mann (The Ringer): Carr has a few undeniable traits: the largest wingspan-to-height ratio among perimeter players in the draft, NBA-caliber leaping ability, and some of the deepest range in the class. That length and vertical pop could make him an elite weakside rim protector for his size, although his spindly frame and high center of gravity might limit his defensive upside as an on-ball defensive hound. Devin Vassell and Mikal Bridges are the North Star comparisons for a player of Carr’s dimensions, but Maxwell Lewis—a tantalizing but inconsistent talent who’s currently playing in Lithuania after cups of coffee with the Lakers and Nets—sits on the negative end of the spectrum.
Yahoo: It was surprising to see Carr was playing in the combine scrimmages, because he’s considered a possible top-20 pick. Teams wanted him to look like the best player on the floor in this setting, and that’s exactly what happened. The Baylor wing went nuclear in the second scrimmage of the day on Wednesday, exploding for 30 points on 6-of-12 shooting from three. Want a long wing who can rip threes and jump out of the gym? Who wouldn’t? I had Carr at No. 21 to the Pistons in my instant mock and now I don’t think he lasts that long.
No Ceilings: I can’t quit Baylor redshirt sophomore Cameron Carr. I understand the questions about the weight, as Carr is as skinny as he looks on tape. But movement shooters like this also don’t have the rare gift of athletic pop and sensational length. Carr has vines for arms, and it pairs beautifully with his fluidity and ability to be a bucket-getting machine.
Kevin O’Connor: 6-5 with a 7-1 wingspan, great from 3, talented off the dribble. Yeah, Cameron Carr definitely belongs in the lottery conversation.
Nathan Grubel (No Ceilings): Cameron Carr is the winner of the 2026 NBA Draft Combine by a mile. Best tested combine athlete in his position range, EXCELLENT scrimmage game… By all accounts has proven he’s an ideal NBA shooting guard. If he wasn’t, he’s in lottery conversations now.
Jeff Borzello (ESPN): He's been the biggest winner of the week in Chicago.
