Baylor Baseball falls late to No. 21 Dallas Baptist, 6-5

DALLAS – Baylor baseball (12-21) remains winless on the road after a 6-5 defeat to No. 21 Dallas Baptist (24-9) Tuesday night at Horner Ballpark.

Freshman shortstop Kolby Branch had his 14th multi-hit game of the season with a 2-4, two RBI performance.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the ninth, junior left fielder Hunter Simmons scorched what appeared to be a go-ahead extra-base hit before DBU’s centerfielder, Jace Grady, made a terrific snow cone grab to kill the Bears rally and end the game.

In the loss, BU’s offense finished the evening with ten hits. Freshman shortstop Kolby Branch had his 14th multi-hit game of the season with a 2-4, two RBI performance.

Despite the offense playing well enough to win, three of the six free passes that the BU pitching staff handed out ultimately came around to score.

Earlier in the game, Simmons lined his second home run of the season over the left wall to tie the game at one apiece.

In the bottom of the second, the Patriots added two runs off of Thursday’s starter, Brett Garcia. Garcia finished the evening surrendering three runs, two hits and three walks in only an inning pitched.

The Bears kept the bats hot and put up a three-spot in the third to take a 4-3 lead. In the frame, Branch lined a 2-RBI single through the right side, and sophomore first baseman John Ceccoli hit a sacrifice fly into right field.

In the fifth, junior Cole Tremain picked up his seventh RBI of the season with an infield single that scored Branch from third.

In the bottom of the frame, DBU tied the game at five apiece with a two-run homer off of junior Adam Muirhead. On the year, Muirhead has walked 24 batters and allowed 16 hits in 16 innings pitched.

The Patriots scored the go-ahead run in the eighth on an RBI double off of junior righty Grant Golomb.
