NIL is ruining the sport, or at least my love for the sport as a fan. NIL is turning college hoops into faux pro sports for me and I couldn't care less about pro sports except for gambling. I won't be any more interested in seeing a Baylor roster with 75% roster turnover every year any more than watching a Dallas Cowboys game. Hard to root for guys and see them develop over their career knowing the next season they'll just jump ship for the highest bidder.

First of all, I admit I don't fully get it. The intrinsic Advertising $ value of a sports athlete has historically been factored by the public awareness of the athlete, and the scarcity of uber talent: we can all agree there are only a handful of athletes in any era that really move the needle, marketing-wise. Flooding the market with thousands of players promoting to the local and regional markets does little but dilute the demand for such talent.
I assume that what is happening at Miami and a number of super competitive schools NIL-wise is that a few fat cats are wildly overpaying for promotional products with little or no real benefit to their existing businesses...all done to essentially pay a kid to come play for their School. Nothing has changed, it's just being dressed up as something different.
Hopefully a lot of this is going to burn itself out, unfortunately at the expense of a number of student/athletes that are going to be let out to dry. I hope LJ and others have people looking at the NIL contracts in detail. We have already seen where a High School kid had an multimillion$ NIL deal pulled out from under him about the time he was supposed to move into the dorm. My suspicion is that IRS interpretation of business losses for large marketing expenses where there was none before NIL, might be determinative in this. Aside from that, folks will tire of the promotional efforts from the second-string point guard, or third string QB, especially if the results on the field or court fail to match expectations.
