STILLWATER, Okla. – Baylor men’s tennis rolled to a 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon over the Oklahoma State Cowboys at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

Baylor (17-14, 2-3 Big 12) clinched its first doubles point of the conference slate before the singles squad took care of business at Courts Six, Two and Five. Freshman Zsombor Velcz showed out at two by defeating a top-100 opponent for his first ranked win since the ITA Indoor Championships.

THE RUNDOWN

BU’s ranked doubles duos at one and two took care of business for the Bears, only allowing three games each to clinch the point. The 24th-ranked team of Finn Bass and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi glided to the victory over Francisco Pini and Alex Garcia, while No. 14 Velcz and Tadeas Paroulek defeated Isaac Becroft and Chase Ferguson at one.

Moving to singles, the Bears gained a point early after OSU’s Leighton Allen retired against Luc Koenig at Court Six. Koenig was up 4-1 in the first frame before the match was called.

Garcia, a member of BU’s NCAA finalist squad in 2021, beat No. 53 Bass at Court Three, 6-2, 6-4, for the Cowboy’s lone point in Sunday’s matinee.

The 86th-ranked Becroft fell to freshman phenom Velcz 6-1, 6-4, before Grassi Mazzuchi clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-6(1) victory at the fifth spot.

On the unfinished courts, No. 69 Paroulek was in a battle against No. 99 Tyler Zink after dropping the first set, 7-5, 3-3. Marko Miladinović forced a third at four but left the match at 1-6, 6-4, 2-0.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Bears await final seeding for the Big 12 Championship, to be announced at the conclusion of the Texas Tech and Oklahoma match on Sunday afternoon.
