RayJ Dennis, the top rated guard in the transfer portal, has committed to play his final season of college basketball at Baylor over offers from Illinois, Indiana, Utah, and Michigan.

A rising senior in the transfer portal from Toledo, Dennis is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound point guard from Plainfield, Illinois. He boasts a 6-foot-7 wingspan along with his unanimous 2022-23 MAC Player of the Year award among other accolades.

Dennis was a finalist for the Lute Olson National Player of Year Award as well as the Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of Year Award. He ranked 10th nationally with a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio and ranked 14th nationally with 5.8 assists per game.

Dennis’ overall stat line is similarly impressive with an average of 19.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 made threes per game in 33.9 minutes per game. His shooting percentages were solid with 48.4% from the field, 36.6% from three and 76.9 % from the free throw line.

Advance stats from KenPom.com also look very positively on Dennis. He had an offensive rating of 119.2 last season on a 28.7% usage rate. He had an effective field goal percentage of 52.9% and a true shooting percentage of 55.8% with a turnover rate of 11.5 (the percentage of personal possessions ending in a turnover).

As a junior, he posted 12.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game while shooting 50.3% from the floor and 32.1% from three-point range.

Dennis will give Baylor an immediate replacement for Adam Flagler at the point guard position and a potential All-Big 12 type talent.

I like this guy. Led his team in assists in almost every game last year. Has improved his 3 point percentage every year and got it close to 38% last year. His overall FG percentage is almost 50% which means his 2s are going down.

Scott Drew has been playing the transfer game before it was cool. Guy knows what he is doing in the new world order.

We needed this guy. Welcome RayJ.

Huge huge huge get. This guys is exactly what we needed to fill the void left by Flagler.

Very excited to see who else wants from the portal who wants to play with this lineup

If you listen to the Field of 68 podcast where RayJ announced his choice of Baylor, he also indicated Jalen Bridges was one of the guys who helped recruit him the most.

Just putting it out there.

Maybe I'm out of line but Ray seems like equal overall player to LJ. Not as pure a shooter or probably scorer but better feel for the game, better playmaker, much longer on defense

Could be on paper and vid, but still has to show on court against the Big 12 Murderer's Row and the Big Dance. But don't get me wrong, it's a huge get for sure and I am ESTATIC about it!

100%. The style can translate but have to prove it at level.

Very high potential team especially if JTT recovers further and wants to stay. Dunn, Little, and Grimes are high ceiling guys that might be coming off the bench. Best bench guards in the conference.

I think of RayJ as more of a Keyonte George type replacement who likes to back defenders down, dribble drive and then get off a shot. That's how his FG% was almost 10% higher than Keyonte. He didn't play the same competition as Keyonte but his shooting percentages (both from 2 and 3) and ball handling stats were much better. Also, a better defender than Keyonte showed last year but once again the competition was a bit weaker than what Keyonte faced.

We're not ever gonna find many better pure shooters than LJ and he sure was fun to watch when he was hot, but the rest of his game is not that difficult to replace and RayJ surpasses all of the other areas that LJ provided.

I'm always more impressed when someone not only leads a team in scoring, but also leads in assists. That pretty much indicates he's a team player. And, I always love an experienced guard. RayJ is a grown *** man with 4 years of college experience, not an 18 year old kid with no college experience.

We essentially have 3 true PG's now, correct? RayJ, Miro and Dantwan. That's a nice luxury to have!

That's a great luxury to have. We had 3-4 in 2021 & it's one reason for the natty.

Yes, and now we will have multiple PGs who can punish defenses who try to pressure or press us, exploiting mismatches. Also keeps everyone fresher since one guy won't be worn down having to handle all the pressure. One of the reasons Butler and Davion were so great together.
