Columbus (TX) 2025 quarterback Adam Schobel‍ has given his commitment to the Baylor staff after earning an offer from Baylor a month ago. He becomes the first commit in the 2025 class.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound prospect committed to Baylor over offers from Houston, Oklahoma State, and UTSA.

Schobel is coming off of a monster sophomore season as he totaled 2,823 yards and 36 touchdowns with only four interceptions while completing 72% of his passes. This was coming off a freshman season in which he posted 2,440 yards and 28 touchdowns while completing 68% of his passes.

According to SicEm365 he is a four-star, 91 overall prospect while 247 has him as an 88 three star and On3 has him as an 89 three star.

I've heard he is football's answer to Dick Trickle.

Credit where credit is due. It's a great pick up. Having him sign on the dotted line is another matter and I expect an epic battle. Hopefully the staff will develop relationships behind the scenes with some contingency options

Same thought as well. Even signing doesn't mean that much anymore because they can leave in the first year. Big kid and will only get better - - - would be great to see some good character guys come onboard you make that decision to attend the school so the coaches can build the talent around him. He can sure sling it.

At this point, programs that don't recruit at an elite level should be lobbying for the ability for players to sign letters of intent whenever they want to. While that would certainly hurt the fan experience of having signing days and it would add some risk (i.e. when will a program know whether the player will actually graduate on time and what steps could a program take in the event that that graduation didn't seem likely to occur or occur on time), it would protect programs that don't recruit well from losing solid recruits prior to them stepping on campus.

I read his dad played at both A&M and TCU. Everyone knows what that means. Once A&M shoots their shots and misses with the first several five stars in the 2025 class, they'll come knocking with their NIL money and act like Adam is who they wanted all along.

I'll consider players "committed" after they have at least lettered or stayed in the program a couple of years.

Recruiting has changed so much, not in a good way.

I wish this high schooler the best of luck and welcome him to Baylor.

I'm excited, this is a huge pickup. Will help recruit other positions, and I will just pretend like Novosad didn't happen

His dad and uncle both played for TCU. They have their eyes on bigger fish for now but we should keep in contact with other guys. Hopefully we learned from Novasad to have a backup plan.

At best it just means he likes us for now. Who knows where his head and his heart will be by early signing day 2024 and who will be dangling more NIL $$ as we get closer to that time - especially if he avoids serious injury and continues to develop and improve (as expected).

Yep. I'll contain my excitement until he has moved into a dorm on BU's campus.

Good of us to ID Ohio State's next QB for them.

Do we get a finder's fee?

This commitment sheds more light on the Nate Bennett offer. We just got left at the altar by Novosad, so we are rebounding by taking a quarterback in this class that we know will honor the commitment, because what are his other options? Then we land this guy who I'm sure the staff is much more iffy about.

Yeah, they should have to give us the guy that's backing up whoever is replacing Stroud

Does this even really matter anymore?

I just can't get excited about recruits anymore.
