"Most important to me are the special teams coordinator and other players in the special teams unit. Second is the business school program. Third is the culture of the team and fourth is how the play calling goes on 4th down."

Hmmm....

Pros:
Special teams are similar to most schools and better than many
Our business school is really good
Culture of the team is solid.

Cons:
4th Down play calling - abysmal bordering on moronic

The decisions to go on 4th have been ok .that's Aranda..the actual play call has been abysmal at times..that's Grimes.

As a kicker..I assume he wants to go to a place that doesn't go for it a lot on 4th down..that ain't us.

There are a myriad of reasons to go for it on 4th down. One of them is you don't trust your kicker. That's the one reason he can control.

Well we've had more than our share of kickers who created the lack of trust scenario.

It's pretty much one our long-standing football traditions - kickers who are an adventure at best.

Under Aranda the decision to kick or go for it on 4th was based on his situational chart. It had very little to do with the kicker
Aranda believes in the chart
He believes in it so much that his 3rd down play call was sometimes based off the yards he needed so that the chart would say to go for it on 4th

His decision to go for it on 4th down on our end of the field in the Big 12 championship game vs OSU was the second worst decision in Baylor History (Kevin Steele debacle vs NC State is #1). Should have cost us the game if it weren't for a very fortunate (and magnificent) defensive stand on the 1 yard line.

Its not the only time he has done this. There are circumstantial situations you go for it on 4th down in your end (less than a foot to go, down by 7 with 4 minutes left, your team is dominating the line, etc). Aranda seems to stick to some self created analytic chart and not look at the bigger picture of line performance or benefits vs negatives of not making it.

It is not " self created"

There are several companies now in the analytical business, Optimum, Next Gen and nflfastR are just a few that produce the data
Now you could argue that Aranda might lean to the aggressive side but that is pure anecdotal on my part
