Baylor Football Recruiting
Breaking down the 2019 offers: Running Backs
With true RB Stanley Hackett committed, and, potentially, Craig Williams, the Baylor staff may not feel much pressure to send out early offers to 2019 RB prospects. Considering the additions of John Lovett, Trestan Ebner and Abram Smith (who will miss the 2017 season due to injury) in the 2017 class, there will be at least four scholarship running backs on campus in 2019, even without including the 2018 class in future depth charts.
Taking these things into consideration sheds more light on the offers (or lack thereof) that have been extended to running backs in the 2019 class.
Before taking a stand against the IMG Academies of the world, Matt Rhule extended an offer to the top-ranked running back of the 2019 class, Noah Cain. To be clear, it was only one day after Baylor offered that Cain announced his decision to transfer from Denton Guyer High School to IMG Academy in Florida.
The move to IMG, coupled with Rhule’s recent statements against recruiting from the school, effectively removes Cain from Baylor’s radar, though the Bears appeared to be on the outside from the get-go. Cain (5-11, 207) appears to be blue blood-bound, with Texas in the early lead for his talents. Cain has made at least three trips to Austin since transferring to IMG in early 2017.
Baylor offered Florida running back Kenny McIntosh (University High) on March 3. At that time, McIntosh already held offers from Alabama, LSU, and Florida, among a plethora of other programs. With two years of high school left to play, McIntosh has twenty-one scholarship offers.
McIntosh, whose two older brothers play collegiate ball at Notre Dame and Miami, has visited Ohio State and Notre Dame this summer. At 6-foot-1, 205-pounds, he is a composite 4-star prospect who is ranked as the tenth-best running back nationally for his class. Current crystal ball projections are split between Ohio State and Miami.
Isaiah Spiller is the 22nd-ranked running back in the nation for the 2019 class, and Baylor has an uphill climb to win him over. Spiller (Klein Collins HS), the son of a Texas A&M football legacy, holds eleven offers prior to his junior year of high school. At 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, Spiller already possesses the impressive size to accompany his football pedigree.
Baylor extended an offer to Spiller on in early June, after Iowa State, Houston, Tulsa, and Texas A&M threw their hats into the ring. Since that time, Spiller has picked up offers from the likes of Oregon, TCU, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma.
This summer, Spiller has visited Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas A&M, and Texas. Currently, crystal ball projections are 100% in favor of Texas A&M.
