Football is a game of small sample sizes. Even after a full twelve-game season, as an analyst (or a Vegas handicapper) you’re still only scratching the surface of understanding a team.
Part of what makes football so special is how few games there are. Other sports, such as baseball or basketball, are a series of skirmishes with one final battle at the end — the playoffs. Not so in football; every game is a major battle.
